ARCATA, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team dropped the first game of their road trip with a tough 82-78 loss to Humboldt State Thursday night inside Lumberjack Arena.

For the Pioneers, this is just their first time losing consecutive games since they began California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action. With the loss, CSUEB moves to 13-6 overall on the season with a 9-4 mark in league play.

East Bay found themselves fighting an uphill battle all game long as Humboldt State finished the game shooting 55 percent from the field, which ties the the season-high for an opponent against CSUEB.

Cal State East Bay added to their struggles by turning the ball over a 23 times, tying for the second highest mark on the season. Humboldt State would convert those 23 turnovers into 32 points. The Pioneers forced 20 turnovers that they turned into 18 points.

Despite the loss, the Pioneers were scorching hot from the field shooting 57 percent from the field, including 56 percent from three-point range, as all five starters notched double figures.
Kincso Kelemen paced the Pioneers with 14 points going 4-of-6 from three-point land and 5-of-9 overall. Kelemen added three assists, two rebounds and a steal across 32 minutes.

Madison Schiller and
Faith Turner both finished with 11 points each. Schiller tallied a team-best three steals with three assists and two rebounds. Turner shot 4-of-5 from the floor with four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Seniors
Kayley Hsiung and
Morgan Greene both compiled 10 points each for CSUEB. Hsiung went 4-of-8 from the field with two made three-pointers, two rebounds, one block and an assist. Greene corralled a team-high seven rebounds and swatted a game-best three shots.

The Pioneer reserves contributed 22 points as East Bay narrowly edged Humboldt State in rebounds 27-25. Both teams finished with 18 points in the paint.
Zhane Duckett led the CSUEB bench with eight points on a perfect 2-of-2 shooting from beyond the arc while knocking down both of her foul shoots.
Regina Sankey chipped in six points and two rebounds on a impressive 3-of-3 shooting from the floor.

The Pioneers will look to bounce back Saturday evening, January 25 when they visit Turlock to take on the Stanislaus State Warriors.
