SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The No. 24-ranked Cal State East Bay women's cross country team continued to reach new heights on Saturday morning, as the Pioneers placed 11
th overall and fourth among Division-II programs at the Capital Cross Challenge 6K.
CSUEB finished with 378 points to finish ahead of ranked opponents No. 7 Alaska Anchorage (12
th/397), No. 17 Cal State San Marcos (20
th/521), No. 18 UC San Diego (15
th/460) and No. 21 Biola (27
th/664).
The Pioneers are currently ranked for the first time in program history and also placed ahead of several Division I teams on Saturday. Â
"It was an unbelievable day," said Cal State East Bay head coach
Tony Nicolosi. "I've been telling them all season we are preparing to run our best in October and November.
"They keep making history, and the best is yet to come."
Sophomore
Angie Ronquillo set a new school record for a 6K, leading the pack with a 23
rd-place finish behind a time of 21-minutes, 16.8-seconds. Junior
Claire Fisher placed 42nd after crossing the finish line in 21:33.8, which is third all-time in program history.
Sophomore
Amanda Navarro was 80
th overall with a time of 21:56.2, senior
Andrea Romero earned 127
th place at 22:17.8, senior
Alondra Castro Ortiz finished 136
th (22:25.1) and senior
Brittney Duquette was 181
st (22:55.6).
Ronquillo (No. 1) , Fisher (No. 3) and Navarro (No. 5) each recorded top-five program marks in a 6K, while Romero (No. 7), Castro Ortiz (No. 8) and Duquette (No. 14) each moved into the top-15.
The Pioneers return to action at the SF State Invitational on Friday, Oct. 11, beginning at 2 p.m.
