Pioneer Women's Volleyball Falls to Hawaii Pacific on Second Day of West Region Showcase

LOS ANGELES – The Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team dropped their only match 3-1 to Hawaii Pacific on the second day of the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase hosted by Cal State L.A.
 
With the loss the Pioneers move to 1-2 during the tournament and 1-6 overall on the season.
 
Although the Pioneers were only able to capture one set in the contest, the match proved to be closer than it appeared on paper. East Bay was out-shot .275 to .161 for the game but the CSUEB defense was very strong. East Bay was able to win the dig battle 62-53 over Hawaii Pacific. But the Sharks earn six aces to only one ace from the Pioneers. The assists totals were nearly even as the Pioneers narrowly edged the Sharks 42-40.
 
The opening set was tightly contested as momentum swung back and forth between the two teams. The Sharks were able to best the Pioneers 29-27 to take the first set. The Sharks has little trouble capturing the second set as they cruised by the Pioneers 25-14.
 
Tides would turn for East Bay in the decisive third set as the turned in three separate rallies of three of more points to capture their only set win of the afternoon. The fourth set saw the experience of Hawaii Pacific take over once again as they won the set and the match victory, 3-1.
 
Kara Green and Tiana Weeks paced the Pioneers with 12 kills each. Green finished with 12.5 points as she turned in her third double digit kill outing in the last four matches. Weeks turned in a strong performance as she added 11 digs and 13.5 points to lead CSUEB.
 
Eliza Cannon finished with a double-double as she has a team-best 27 assists to go along with 10 digs, six kills, four blocks and eight total points. Cannon has compiled double figure assists in early games this season. Audrey Lamoureux chipped in 11 assists on the afternoon.
 
Sarah Stevelinck was tops on the Pioneer squad with 22 digs. Stevelinck has accumulated four straight contests with double digit digs. Natahlee Wilson was finished the match with double figure digs with 11 total. Steena Hubbard tallied five blocks to lead East Bay as she added three digs and three kills.
 
The Pioneers will conclude their completion at the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase with a final match against Azuza Pacific at 7:30 p.m.
