GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team turned in its best round of the Spring season on Saturday to move up six spots and finish tied for sixth out of 23 teams at the annual Western New Mexico Mustang Intercollegiate.Â
After carding 309 on (+21) on Friday at Palm Valley Golf Club, the Pioneers shot 298 (+10) in round two to finish the 36-hole event at 607 (+31). All five Pioneers broke 80 as they bested conference rival Sonoma State as well as a host of other solid squads from the West region.

Carolin Chang and freshman
Drishti Karumbaya both notched top-20 individual finishes in the overall field of 115 golfers after outstanding rounds on Saturday. Chang carded 73 (+1) to finish four over par for the tournament at 148. Karumbaya shot even-par 72 in the final round to close the week at 149.Â
CSUEB got a crucial performance from senior
Hafsa Khan, who improved five strokes from the first round to the second, and matched her lowest round of the season with a 75 (+3) to help the Pioneers make their push up the leaderboard.Â
Below are CSUEB's final individual scores. The team will now fly home and head straight to Santa Rosa on Sunday for the practice round of the Sonoma State Spring Invitational, which runs Apr. 8-9. That will be the final regular season tournament for the Pioneers before they travel to Carlsbad, Calif. for CCAA Championships Apr. 15-16.
