HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay baseball team opened their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) home series against Cal State Dominguez Hills with 5-3 victory Friday afternoon, April 5 at Pioneer Baseball Field.

With the win, East Bay improves to 12-18 on the season with a 9-15 mark in league. The Pioneers also broke their .500 mark at home as they are now 7-6 in ballgames played in Hayward.

The Pioneers got tremendous performances from both their pitching staff and their field players.
Blake Corsentino (W, 3-2) (Ventura, Calif.) garnered the victory after going 6.2 innings and tied a season-high mark with four strikeouts. Corsentino only allowed six hits, one earned run and walked one batter.

Senior
Steve Robinson (Yuba City, Calif.) had a career outing from the plate as he crushed his first and second home runs of the 2019 season. Robinson put East Bay ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run blast over the left center fence. Then in the seventh, Robinson knocked another two-run blast high over the left field wall to give CSUEB a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Robinson finished the afternoon with two hits, two runs, four RBI and two home runs.

The fourth inning is when the Pioneer offense took control of the ballgame. With two outs on the board
Jacob Eder (Prescott, Ariz.) doubled to right center field and
Adam Hollar (Livermore, Calif.) followed with a RBI double to right center field to put the East Bay on the board 1-0. Eder tallied a double and scored a run and Hollar compiled two hits, including a double with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Toros did try to string together a comeback scoring three combined runs in the seventh and eighth innings. But that's when
Mark Woinarowicz (S,5) (Yorba Linda, Calif.) came and closed the game out on the mound. Woinarowicz didn't allow any runs and only two hits through 1.2 innings of action. He finished the game with three strikeouts.

Robert Lujan (Reno, Nev.) doubled through the left side in the bottom of the seventh inning and
Kyosuke Ushimaru (Tokyo, Japan) also notched a single to third base for the Pioneers first hit of the contest.
Omar Sanchez (Winton, Calif.) also singled up the middle in the seventh inning and
Matt Cantelme (Fair Oaks, Calif.) singled in the fifth inning for CSUEB.

Kyle Basch (San Carlos, Calif.) saw 0.2 innings of work on the mound and registered two force outs.

The Pioneers and Toros will continues their series with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Pioneer Baseball Field beginning at noon.
