HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay baseball team was narrowly edged out by of score of 3-2 their "Bay Bridge" series finale to the visiting San Francisco State Gators on Sunday afternoon, April 14 at Pioneer Baseball Field.

With the loss, SF State won the series 3-1 as East Bay moves to 15-22 on the season with a with a 12-19 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.

The game started off as a pitching duel as neither squad could garner any runs through the first five innings.
Dylan Dudley (Newman, Calif.) got the start on the mound for CSUEB and did not allow any runs through six innings of work. Dudley finished five punch outs, with three walks and only two hits given up.

The Pioneers broke the scoreless game open in the bottom of the sixth inning after
Robert Lujan (Reno, Nev.) knocked an RBI single up the middle bringing home
Kyosuke Ushimaru (Tokyo, Japan) for East Bay's first score of the ball game. Lujan finished with a hit, an RBI and a walk and Ushimaru notched a hit and scored a run.

In the bottom of the seventh inning,
Matt Cantelme chipped a lead-off single down the right side and stole second base in the next at bat. Then
Steve Robinson (Yuba City, Calif.) popped a single up the middle to score Cantelme and out the Pioneers ahead 2-0 in the game. Cantelme paced CSUEB with two hits, a run, a walk and a stolen base and Robinson added a hit and an RBI.

Unfortunately for East Bay that would be their final run of the contest as San Francisco State scored two runs in the top of the eighth to tie and game and one final run in the top of the ninth to secure the 3-2 win.

Ryan McSwain (Redwood City, Calif.) to left center field to lead of the bottom of the third inning and drew a walk in the opening at bat of the outing.
Adam Hollar (Livermore, Calif.) recorded a single to left field to open the fourth inning and also forced a walk to lead off the second inning.
Omar Sanchez (Winton, Calif.) singled through the left side and proceed to steal a base in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Pioneers made one last surge to take the game into extra innings.

Mark Woinarowicz (L, 0-2) (Yorba Linda, Calif.) took charge of the mound in the seventh inning and finished with three strikeouts and three earned runs.

The Pioneers will hit the road for a four-game CCAA series agasint Sonoma State beginning on Thursday, April 18 at 3:00 p.m.
