TURLOCK, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay volleyball team opened this week's road trip with a tough 3-1 loss to the Stanislaus State Warriors, Tuesday evening inside Ed & Bertha Fitzgerald Arena.
With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 5-16 on the season with a 4-9 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.
East Bay started the match slow, falling behind Stanislaus State 11-4 in the opening set. CSUEB then went on a 10-5 run to close the Warrior lead to just two, but Stan State ended up pulling out the set, 25-22. In the second set, Cal State East Bay started the match with a little momentum as they began the set tied at 5-5 with Stanislaus State. Then the Warriors caught fire and proceeded to go on a 20-8 run to take the second set 25-13.
The third set was the lone set the Pioneers won. East Bay battled through all of the Stan State attempts to cut into the set lead but CSUEB held strong. But that would be the Pioneers only set point of the night as they Warriors bounced back to take the fourth set and the match victory.
Eliza Cannon finished with a double-double as she paced the Pioneers with 31 assists and 14 digs. Cannon also added eight kills and two blocks.
Kara Green collected a team high 11 kills to go along with five digs, two blocks and 12 total points.
Sarah Stevelinck notched a team best 17 digs as well as six assists.
Audrey Lamoureux finished the match with eight assists, second best of the team, six digs and two kills.
Natahlee Wilson chipped in seven digs with two assists.
Steena Hubbard's nine kills was second on the Pioneers for the match. Hubbard added two digs and 10.5 points.
Kelly Jing-min Markham tallied eight kills and three blocks, which led the team.
Tayler Templeman compiled seven kills, five digs and seven points.
East Bay will return to action with a road match against Sonoma State, Friday evening at 5 p.m. in the Wolves' Den.
