SEASIDE, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay volleyball team completed their "Battle of the Bays" season sweep over Cal State Monterey Bay with a 3-2 victory in the Kelp Bed, Friday night.

The Pioneers fought off a hot start and a strong late match rally to collect the five set decision as they pick up their first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road win of the season. CSUEB moves to 5-15 on the season with a 4-8 mark in league play.

Despite being out-hit for the match .258-.221 the Pioneers were able to collect more points (82.0-77.0), kills (63-61), aces (7-6), blocks (12-10), assists (57-54) and digs (69-65).

Throughout the match the Otters were in control, but the Pioneers did not give up their fight. East Bay twice fought off a pair of set points in the second set on their way to claiming a 29-27 set victory. Monterey Bay also held a 21-19 lead in the third set before East Bay rallied off six straight points for the set win.

In the final set, the home team Otters jumped out to a 5-2 lead. But the Pioneers secured the match with a 13-3 closing run.

A pair of Pioneer freshmen registered double-doubles in the conference rivalry win.
Kara Green led East Bay with 20 kills and 19 digs. Green's 20 kills set a new career mark as she added five blocks and 22.5 points.
Eliza Cannon paced the Pioneers with 35 assists to go along with 12 digs, eight kills and 10 point with a .400 hitting percentage.

Steena Hubbard played an impressive match for CSUEBÂ as she tallied a career-high marks with 11 kills and eight blocks. Hubbard also recorded three aces and 19 total points.
Tayler Templeman also collected 11 kills with seven digs and 11 points.

Natahlee Wilson compiled 11 digs and an assist.
Sarah Stevelinck added 10 assists with nine digs and three service aces.

The Pioneers will return to action with two more road matches against Stanislaus State and Sonoma State before a home-and-away match up against Humboldt State to conclude the weekend.
