CARSON, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay Volleyball team opened their two game road trip with a tough 3-0 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills, Friday night in The Torodome.
With the loss, East Bay falls to 7-18 on the season with a 6-11 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
The Toros led the match from start to finish in the opening set as they jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as they took the set point, 25-15. In the second set, CSUDH raced out to a 7-3 lead to take control of the second set and never looked back as before notching a 25-14 set point before the intermission.
Coming out of the break, the Pioneers showed some fighting spirit as they had the home team tied at 8-8 in the third round. But Dominguez Hills would capture 8 of the next ten serves to surge ahead 16-10 en route to a 25-15 set victory.
A trio of Pioneers all notched five kills to lead the squad.
Steena Hubbard finished with five kills, five points and an assist.
Kara Green also compiled five kills with five total points, three digs and an assist. Kelly Markham also collected five kills and five points.
Eliza Cannon paced the Pioneers with 16 assists, three digs and a block in the match.
Sarah Stevelinck notched a team high nine digs with two assists and a kill.
Natahlee Wilson and
Bella Carrion finished with three digs each.
Julie May added three kills and two digs for CSUEB.
