Bri Vallente (Waikoloa, Hawaii) and sophomore libero
Sarah Stevelinck (Lyons, Colo.) have been selected as Cal State East Bay's Athletes of the Week for Oct. 7-11.
Vallente fueled the Pioneers' offense last week, scoring a goal as well as recording the game-winning assist in the 24th minute of a 1-0 home victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Oct. 2. Vallente followed up the winning performance by knocking in her first goal of the season in the 55th minute against Sonoma State on Oct. 4. A native of Waikoloa, Hawai'i, Vallente's two assists are tied for second most on the team.
Stevelinck was impressive for the Pioneers last week, racking up six assists, two services aces and 25 digs as East Bay was narrowly edged out, 3-2 on the road against Chico State. Stevelinck followed up her performance with helping lead CSUEB to the first CCAA victory of the season over San Francisco State, finishing with four assists and 25 digs. Stevelinck's 214 digs leads the Pioneers and is good for fourth in the league.
