East Bay Falls in Home Thriller to Cal Poly Pomona on Dig Pink Night

HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team concluded their weekend home stand with a tough, 3-2 loss to the visiting Cal Poly Pomona Broncos on their "Dig Pink" night inside Pioneer Gymnasium, Saturday night.

The Pioneers suffered their second consecutive loss at home as they move to 4-15 overall on the season with a 3-8 record in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action. CSUEB now has a 3-6 mark in Hayward.

The second set featured a little more back and forth action between the squads before Pomona took a 15-9 lead. After a late rally, sparked by back-to-back kills by Kara Green and Samantha Zimmerman, tied the score at 20-20 all. But the Broncos caught their groove and took the second set 25-23.

The third set saw the Pioneers rally off three straight points three different time to claim a 25-22 set victory and take a 2-1 lead. The fourth set, similar to the second set, saw the team trade leads multiple times. Ultimately, the Cal Poly Pomona was able to garner the set point to even the score at 2-2.

In the final set of the match, the Broncos controlled momentum taking a 10-4 advantage. But five straight points from the Pioneers brought them within one point, 10-9. After a Bronco timeout, the teams traded the next few points before Pomona took control of the set and captured a 15-11 set win and a 3-2 match victory.
