HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team played inspired and composed in their huge 3-1 victory over California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival Cal State Monterey Bay in the first episode of the "Battle of the Bays" series, Friday night inside Pioneer Gymnasium.

The Pioneers have now won three of their last four matches in Hayward as they improved to 3-6 in CCAA action with a 4-13 record overall. Head Coach
Kimberly Lambert was proud of her team responded in tonight's performance.

"I could not be more proud of this group and their resilience they prove to me everyday," expressed Lambert. "I continue to challenge them everyday and they continue to rise to the occasion."

East Bay narrowly out-hit Monterey Bay .141-.132 for the contest as they garnered more points (62.0-51.0), kills (51-43), aces (6-2), assists (47-40) and digs (66-64).

A pair of Pioneers freshmen collected double doubles as
Kara Green lead the squad with 14 kills and 20 digs and
Eliza Cannon tallied a game-high 37 assists with 10 digs. Green finished with 15 total points and added four assists. Cannon fell two kills shy of a triple double as she notched eight kills with a .400 hit percentage.

Jasmyne Love compiled 10 kills and tied the CSUEB team-high with three total blocks.
Kelly Jing-min Markham also collected three blocks and eight kills. Love was also second on the team with 12 total points and Markham finished with 9.5 points.

Sarah Stevelinck registered 17 digs to go along with three assists while
Samantha Zimmerman added six kills, including two aces and two digs.

The Pioneers will return to action with two more home matches against Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona, Friday and Saturday in Pioneer Gymnasium.
