East Bay Baseball Holds Off Sonoma State, 6-3 To Claim Huge 3-1 Series Victory

HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay baseball team picked up a huge California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series victory over fellow postseason contender Sonoma State with a 6-3 win on Sunday afternoon, April 29 at Pioneer Field.
 
The 3-1 series win moves CUSEB to 23-23 on the season with a 20-20 mark in conference action. East Bay is currently tied for seventh in the CCAA Standings for the annual CCAA Tournament in which the top six team earn a spot.
 
Senior Jacob Call (W, 5-2) (Fremont, Calif.) collected his fifth win of the season after tossing 6.0 innings and fanning two batters. Fellow senior Andrew Fernandez (Castro Valley, Calif.) compiled his second save in a many games after finishing to final inning of action for CSUEB. Nick Risucci (Las Vegas, Nev.) got the start on the mound and struck out one batter through two innings of action.
 
Senior Colt Parshall (Oakdale, Calif.) paced the Pioneers with three hits, two runs scored and a RBI. It was Parshall's third triple hit game of the 2018 season.
 
East Bay took an early 1-0 lead after the second inning of play. The Seawolves would take a, 2-1 lead after the top of the fifth inning but the Pioneers would respond with two runs to end the fifth inning with a 3-2 advantage.
 
CSUEB would add more runs in the sixth and eighth innings to secure the series finale victory. Four different Cal State East Bay student-athletes finished the ballgame with at least two hits.
 
Senior Raymond Jones (San Diego, Calif.) tallied two hits, including a double and a RBI. Adam Hollar (Livermore, Calif.) compiled two hits and A RBI as well for East Bay. Kyosuke Ushimaru (Tokyo, Calif.) added two hits, including his second triple of the season and a run scored. Jacob Eder (Prescott, Ariz.) chipped in two hit with a double, a RBI and a run scored.
 
Steve Robinson (Yuba City, Calif.) scored a run and stole the Pioneers only base of the afternoon while junior Paul Bryniarski (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) scored a run as well. Dallas Dey (Tustin, Calif.) and Aaron Albaum (San Carlos, Calif.) both finished with an RBI apiece. Nolan Jekich (Boise, Idaho) completed the ballgame with a hit in the second inning.
 
The Pioneers are still in playoff contention with one final series remaining on their 2018 regular season schedule. Their final series of the season will come against the top team in the CCAA No. 12 Cal State Monterey Bay. The Pioneers will face the Otters at Pioneer field on Thursday, May 3 at 3:00 p.m. and on Saturday, May 5 at 12:00 noon which will be Senior Day for CSUEB.
 
Monterey Bay will host the series lone doubleheader of Saturday, May 4 at CSUMB Baseball Complex beginning at noon.
