HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay softball team will conclude their 2018 regular season with a home series against the visiting Cal State San Bernardino at Pioneer Softball Field. The Pioneers do not have any seniors on their roster this season and will not be having a Senior Day celebration.

The Pioneer will enter the series with a 17-34 mark on the season and a 11-25 record in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.

LAST ACTION
In the opening game of the afternoon saw a pitching duel between East Bay's
Abby Greer (L, 5-15) (Beaverton, Ore.) and San Marcos' Caitlin Vinyard. Vinyard (W, 6-14) tossed a two hit shutout as the Cougars scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the, 4-0 win.

Greer finished the contest with her 13th complete game of the season, two strikeouts and no walk through 6.0 innings tossed.

Freshman
Maddie Ramirez (Chino Hills, Calif.) and
Bailee Glover (Reno, Nev.) logged the only two hits for the Pioneers.

In the final game of the afternoon CSUEB was able to find more offense but it was CSUSM who would pickup the, 4-2 home victory to sweep the Friday doubleheader.

Courtney Leyba (Huntington Beach, Calif.) paced the Pioneers with two of the team's nine hits.
Maddie Ramirez compiled a hit and an RBI.

Meghan Araneta (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) tallied a hit for East Bay, while
Bailee Aguigui (Vacaville, Calif.) and
Jennifer Palmares (Elk Grove, Calif.) scored the Pioneers runs of the ball game. Palmares also stole a base and was hit by pitch twice for CSUEB.

Bailee Glover (L, 7-5) picked up her third complete game of the season.

CSUEB offense was in full display as they accounted for eight or more hits through both ends of the doubleheader. In the opening game the Pioneer offense was not able to account for many runs as East Bay fell, 7-2 to the home team.

San Marcos scored early and often with runs in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings.

CSUEB had three different players register a double in the ball game. Junior
Courtney Leyba (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led Cal State East Bay with three hits, including a double and a RBI. Sophomore
Jennifer Palmares (Elk Grove, Calif.) tallied a double and scored a run.
Rachel Tadlock (Woodland, Calif.) doubled in top of the sixth inning.

Sarah Fukushima (Sacramento, Calif.) and
Emilie Portesi (Chino, Calif.) each chipped in a hit while
Maddie Ramirez (Chino Hills, Calif.) scored East Bay's first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning.

Olivia McWhorter (L, 3-9) (Cypress, Calif.) led the Pioneer rotation with three strikeouts and one walk through 3.0 innings of action.
Taylor Lara (La Puente, Calif.) also saw 3.0 innings of action in the circle allowing only one run scored.

In the series finale, CSUEB starting pitcher
Abby Greer (W, 6-15) (Beaverton, Ore.) had a shutout in the works before the Cougars rallied off four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. But a strong start offensively from the Pioneers with two runs in the third inning and three more runs in the fifth allowed Cal State East Bay to come away with a, 5-4 victory to end the series.

Rachel Tadlock tied the Pioneer lead with her second home run of the season as she finished the game with two hits, three RBI and a run scored.

Courtney Leyba complied another three hit performance with a run scored.
Jennifer Palmares also tallied a multi-hit performance with two hits, a run and a RBI.

In the opening game, CSUEB starting pitcher
Abby Greer (L, 6-16) (Beaverton, Ore.) hurled her 15th complete game of the season to go along with her three strikeouts and two walks.

The East Bay offense was only able to garner one run on three hits during the ballgame. Concordia put together runs in the third, fourth and sixth inning to come away with the, 4-1 win.

Bailee Glover (Reno, Nev.) knocked in the Pioneers only run of the season with a RBI double to center field in the top of the sixth inning.
Maddie Ramirez (Chino Hills, Calif.) added a hit and scored a run for CSUEB.
Courtney Leyba (Huntington Beach, Calif.) completed the game with a single to center field in the fourth inning of action.

In the doubleheader finale, the Pioneers jumped out to an early, 2-0 lead headed into the fifth inning. The Eagles would do an excellent job of playing comeback with three runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings to claim a, 6-3 comeback victory.

PIONEER POINTS
Offensively, sophomore
Jennifer Palmares is second on the Pioneers with a .331 average, .376 on-base percentage, 34 runs scored and is second in the CCAA with 16 doubles. Fellow sophomore
Sarah Fukushima (.288 avg, 28 RBI, 12 extra base hits) has been a consistent bat for the Pioneers as she leads the team with two home runs on the season. Junior
Courtney Leyba is also off to a productive start leading CSUEB with a .331 average, 31 runs, 30 RBI, and 14 extra base hits including a conference leading seven triples.

All four Pioneers pitchers have contributed strong performances so far this year, resulting in a 3.58 team ERA.
Bailee Glover leads East Bay with seven victories and a 3.15 ERA, while
Abby Greer boasts three shutouts, 15 complete games and a 3.12 ERA in a team-high 136.2 innings.

SCOUTING CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO
The Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes enter their road series against the East Bay with a 23-15 mark on the season with a 13-13 record after going 2-2 against UC San Diego and splitting their series 1-1 with non-CCAA opponent Concordia-Irvine. Jessica Brown leads the Coyotes with a .407 batting average and league leading 13 home runs. She also has 44 hits and 36 RBIs. Amanda Ramirez leads San Bernardino with a 2.58 ERA, 39 strikeouts and 11 complete game through 157.2 innings tossed.
