PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.
-- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team finished in a tie for eighth place this week at Cal State Monterey Bay's Otter Invitational, held at Poppy Hills Golf Club.

Originally scheduled as a 36-hole event, play was suspended during Tuesday's second round due to poor course conditions from steady rain over the last several days. Although several of the 20 teams in the field finished round two -- including CSUEB -- those scores will not count.

That's unfortunate news for Carolin Chang, who fired a 73 amidst the raindrops on Tuesday, but the Pioneers nonetheless posted a solid team finish with their first-round score of 312 (+28). They finished tied with Division I squad Dartmouth, just one stroke behind fellow Ivy League member Yale, and six strokes back of No. 18 ranked Cal Baptist. East Bay also finished ahead of 11 teams, including conference rivals Sonoma State and Chico State.

Unlike Chang, senior Taylor Wyss was likely happy to see Tuesday's action washed away after struggling on the back nine of her second round. But Wyss's first round was excellent, as she paced the Pioneers with a Monday score of 75 (+4) to earn a share of 24th place in the overall field of 111 golfers.

Chang was right behind Wyss with a 76 (+5), finishing tied for 32nd place. Julia Youn was two strokes behind Chang, tied for 54th place with a 79 (+8). She was followed closely by Hafsa Khan, whose 80 (+9) was the fourth CSUEB team score and placed her in 65th.

Jamie Enseki rounded out Monday's action with an 87 (+16), finishing with a share of 105th place overall.

The Pioneers have just two tournaments remaining before they head up to Sonoma to compete in their first-ever CCAA Championships. Next week, they fly to Miami for the Barry University Invitational on Mar. 26-27.
