HAYWARD, Calif., -- With homecoming in full swing in Hayward the Cal State East Bay men's basketball team will host California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Pioneers defeated CSUDH, 70-57 on November 17 and fell to CSULA, 84-76 on November 18.
 
CSUEB is currently 12th in the CCAA standings with a 8-16 overall record and a 4-14 mark in conference play.
 
LAST ACTION
The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team dropped a tough overtime road contest, 82-75 to Humboldt State Thursday night, February 1 in Lumberjack Arena.
 
Despite the outcome of the game, several Pioneers turned in great performances led by Druce Asah's (Tracy, Calif.) game high 22 points on 9-for-18 accuracy from the field. Asah went 3-for-6 from long distance to go along with three rebounds and an assist in 33 minutes of action.
 
Senior center Kyle Frakes (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) notched his third double double in the last four games with 14 points and 12 rebounds on 7-for-10 shooting. Frakes has scored in double figures in six consecutive contests.
 
Drew Bender (Phoenix, Ariz.) compiled 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the floor with three rebounds and two rebounds in 34 minutes on the court.
 
Freshman Keshawn Bruner (Sacramento, Calif.) led the East Bay bench with eight points and five rebounds on 25 minutes on the floor to lead all Pioneer reserves.
 
Junior point guard Juwan Anderson (Oakland, Calif.) led all players with eight assists to add with his six points, five rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Senior forward Jelani Mitchell (Pasadena, Calif.) picked up his fifth start of the season scoring six points, two assists and a rebound while knocking down both of the three-point attempts.
 
The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team dropped their road contest, 70-59 to Chico State in Art Acker Gymnasium on Saturday night, February 3. The Wildcats swept the season series over the Pioneers after picking up a win on December 16 in Pioneer Gymnasium.
 
Sophomore guard Druce Asah (Tracy, Calif.) led all scorers with 17 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the field. Asah added four rebounds, two assists and two steal. He is averaging 12.8 points per game in conference action after three straight double figure scoring games.
 
Senior forward Jelani Mitchell (Pasadena, Calif.) received his second consecutive start and notched 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field with five rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Pioneers.  Mitchell went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe in 28 minutes on the court.
 
Senior center Kyle Frakes grabbed a team best nine rebounds to go along with eight points, two assists and a block. Frakes went 4-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-6 from the foul line.
 
Junior point guard Juwan Anderson (Oakland, Calif.) chipped in seven points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal in 30 minutes of action. Deiondre Bird (Portland, Ore.) led the East Bay reserves with four points of 2-for-2 shooting and a rebound. Keshawn Bruner added three points, a rebound, a block and an assists in 18 minutes off the bench.
 
PIONEER POINTS
Cal State East Bay is sixth in the CCAA in free throwing shooting with 343 made foul shots on 71.6% accuracy as a team. The Pioneers have also been dominant in rebounding averaging 36.4 rebounds per outing, good for fourth in the conference. CSUEB is also second in the CCAA in rebounding defense (32.3) and third in offensive rebounds (11.7).
 
Sophomore Druce Asah (Tracy, Calif) leads the Pioneers with 12.3 points per contest. Asah has started 23 games and has 16 games with 10 or more points. He is leading the Pioneers in scoring during conference games with 12.8 points on 37.9% shooting from the field. Asah is grabbing 3.8 rebounds with two blocks and 11 steals so far on the season.
 
Asah also leads East Bay with 46 made three-points with a 36.5% shooting clip from long distance.
 
Senior guard Drew Bender (Phoenix, Ariz.) is second on the team with 11.6 points per game. Bender is adding 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists on 40.0% shooting from the field with 15 double figure scoring outings including five of the first six games to start of 2018.
 
Senior Kyle Frakes (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) has notched double-doubles in four of the last six East Bay outings. Frakes is averaging 8.0 points and a team leading 6.6 rebounds.
 
Junior guard Juwan Anderson (Oakland, Calif.) is tops on the team and second in the conference with 4.5 assists per contest. His 107 total assists are second best in the CCAA. Anderson is chipping in 9.1 points and 2.8 rebounds. His 30.1 minutes per outing in leading the squad as well as his 23 steals. He has 15 games with at least four assists and he dished out a career best 10 assists vs. UC San Diego.
 
SCOUTING CAL STATE L.A.
The Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles are 10th in the CCAA sitting 9-13 overall with a 5-12 mark in conference action after consecutive losses to Chico State, 85-58 and Cal State Dominguez Hills, 105-98. Garrett Carter leads the Golden Eagles with 14.2 points and 3.4 assists. Jalyn Pennie is adding 11.1 points and 5.0 rebounds for Cal State L.A.
 
SCOUTING CAL STATS DOMINGUEZ HILLS
The Dominguez Hills Toros are ninth in the conference with a 10-14 overall mark and a 7-10 record in conference play after back-to-back wins over Humboldt State, 78-72 and Cal State L.A., 105-98. Jonathan Nichols is leading the Toros with 14.4 points per game and 3.1 assists. Malcom Johnson is chipping in 12.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest for Dominguez Hills.
