Seniors Pace Pioneer Men to Huge Senior Night Victory Over Otters

HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Pioneer men's basketball team were victorious in their Senior Night, California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest, 88-69 against Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday night, February 17 in Pioneer Gymnasium.
 
It was the East Bay's second consecutive CCAA win as they move to 10-17 on the season and 5-15 in confernce play.
 
All three seniors for the Pioneers turned in fantastic performances in their final game in-front of the Pioneer faithful.
 
 Jelani Mitchell poured in a season-high 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field, five rebounds in 23 minutes. Kyle Frakes (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) scored 15 points with four rebounds, two steals and a block on 7-for-14 shooting from the floor. Drew Bender (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished with 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
 
The Pioneers dominated the Otters in early facet of the ball game as they shot 48.6% (35-for-72) from the field to while holding their opponents to just 36.7% (22-for-60) shooting for the game.
 
CSUEB also outrebounded the Monterey Bay, 49-40 while outscoring them in the painted area, 36-26. East Bay racked up 17 second-chance points with netting 19 points off 16 forced turnovers from the Otters.
 
The Pioneer bench was more productive than the Monterey Bay reserves as East Bay notched 38 bench points. Sophomore Druce Asah (Tracy, Calif.) led all scorers with 18 points off the bench. Asah went 6-for-9 from the floor, including 4-for-6 from three-point range.
 
Wyatt Maker (Salinas, Calif.) added eight points and eight rebounds in only 10 minutes of action. Jordan Balser (Aubrun, Calif.) finished with six points, four assists and two rebounds.
Deiondre Bird (Portland, Ore.) grabbed eight rebounds to go along with his four points in 16 minutes.
 
The Pioneers will conclude their regular season with a road matchup against Stanislaus State on Thursday night, February 22 with tipoff at 7:30 p.m. in Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
