East Bay Men's Hoops Concludes Season With 66-56 Road Loss To Stanislaus State

TURLOCK, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team dropped their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season finale, 66-56 on the road to Stanislaus State on Thursday night, February 22 in Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
 
It was a rough shooting night for East Bay as they shot under 35% from the field for the first time in 14 contests as they shot 34.5% (19-for-55) from the floor Thursday night. The Pioneers did however knock down double digit three-pointers (10-for-32) for just the fourth time all year.
 
Wyatt Maker (Salinas, Calif.) notched a career high 13 points to pace the Pioneers. Maker went 5-for-6 from the field, including 2-for-2 from long distance and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to go along with two rebounds and a steal in 27 minutes off the bench.
 
The Pioneers forced the Warriors into 15 turnovers and scored 15 points off those turnovers. The East Bay reserves also outscored the Stanislaus State bench 24-4. Stanislaus State also claimed the point in the paint advantage, 30-12 over the Pioneers.
 
 Jordan Balser (Auburn, Calif.) compiled 10 points while sinking two shots form beyond the arc and four made free throws with two rebounds, a block and a steal in 18 reserve minutes.
 
However, the Pioneers suffered their worst rebounding margin (-29) of the season as they grabbed just 23 rebounds to 52 boards from the Warriors. East Bay was led in rebounding by freshman Keshawn Bruner (Sacramento, Calif.) who corralled five boards. Bruner added five points and an assist in 29 minutes on the court.
 
Junior point guard Juwan Anderson (Oakland, Calif.) finished with his season with 133 total assists and 19 games with four or more assists after dishing out seven assists against Stan State. Anderson chipped in seven points and three rebounds in 31 minutes.
 
The senior duo of Jelani Mitchell (Pasadena, Calif.) and Drew Bender (Phoenix, Ariz.) both finished their Pioneer careers in tremendous fashion. Mitchell finished with 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the floor and 2-for-4 accuracy from three-point range to go with his three rebounds and an assist in 34 minutes. Bender also put in 10 points, three rebounds, two steals and an assist with two made foul shots in 27 minutes of game action.
 
The Pioneers end the 2017-18 regular season with a 10-18 overall mark and a 6-16 record in CCAA action. Their 10 wins match their second highest win total as members of the CCAA conference.
