HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team will open the Winter Break with a visit to San Francisco State for another chapter of the Bay Bridge Series. The game will be held at The Swamp on Monday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m.

The Pioneers are 8-2 on the season with a 5-1 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association.

WEEK IN REVIEW
The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team opened their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road trip with by outlasting the Sonoma State Seawolves 63-58 in The Wolves on Thursday night, December 6.

East Bay controlled the competitive game as they took a 17-point lead early in the second half of play. But the Pioneers would rely on their stout defense down the stretch as they convert a shot in the final 6:15 of the ballgame. Cal State East Bay was able to rattle off 20 points from 21 turnovers from the home team.

The Pioneers were red hot from the field in the first half shooting 54.1% from the field including 60% from three-point range. Sophomore
Nai Carlisle (West Lafayette, Ind.) helped deliver most of the first half damage as 15 of his 16 points came before the intermission. Carlisle went 6-for-9 from the field while knocking down 2-of-3 shot from beyond the arc to go along with three assists, two rebounds and a steal.

Despite shooting just 27% from the floor in the second half CSUEB was able to convert 9-of-12 free throws to help seal the game. Senior
Evan Wardlow (Lake View Terrance, Calif.) went a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe as he notched a game-high 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field. He grabbed five rebounds and collected steal in 30 minutes on the court. Wardlow has now tallied back-to-back double figure scoring games.

Patrick Marr (Clayton, Calif.) also compiled double digits on the contest with 10 points and four rebounds. Marr netted seven of his eight foul shots while dishing out two assists and a steal.

East Bay narrowly edge out Sonoma State 30-29 on the boards as the home team made up for the deficit by outscoring the Pioneers 30-16 in paint points. Junior
Ant Navarrete (San Leandro, Calif.) led the way in rebounding for CSUEB with eight to match his eight points.

Senior point guard
Juwan Anderson (Oakland, Calif.) turned in a solid overall performance in the victory. Anderson scored six points, while tying a season-best mark of seven assists to go along with six rebounds and three steals. He also played a team-high 34 minutes.

The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team dropped their first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest of the season with a 59-45 loss to Chico State on Saturday night, December 8 in Art Acker Gymnasium.

With the loss the Pioneers fall to 8-2 on the season with a 4-1 mark in conference action. Cal State East Bay never led in the ballgame as they only scored 15 first half points and got all but one point from their starting five.

Evan Wardlow (Lake View Terrance, Calif.) turned in a solid performance for the Pioneers with a game-high 13 points on 6-for12 shooting from the floor. Wardlow added three rebounds and a steal through 31 minutes as he has now scored in double three in three consecutive games.

Nai Carlisle (West Lafayette, Ind.) collected 11 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Junior
Ant Navarrete (San Leandro, Calif.) also notched 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting to go along with one rebound.

The Pioneers did however outscore the Wildcats in the painted area 28-22 for the ball game. East Bay also forced Chico State into 13 turnovers while scoring 17 points off those mistakes.

The Pioneers are 8-2 on the season with a 5-1 mark in conference play and a 5-0 record inside of Pioneer Gymnasium.

The Pioneers are ranked second in the conference in defensive points allowed with 63.2 per game. The Pios are also shooting 73.1% from the charity stripe which is fourth in the CCAA while also ranking top sixth in rebounding offense and defense.

The Pioneers have six players averaging seven or more points per contest after the opening ten games of the season. Sophomore guard
Nai Carlisle (West Lafayette, Ind.) is shooting 55.4% from the field while contributing a team-best 12.9 points per contest. Carlisle is tied for second on the team with 10 three-pointers made while shooting at a 45.5% clip. He has added 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals per outing.

Juwan Anderson (Oakland, Calif.) is second on CSUEB in scoring with 12.0 points on a team high 30.1 minutes per game. Anderson's 3.8 assists are second in the CCAA while his 2.1 assist to turnover ratio leads the league. He is also corralling 3.9 rebounds per outing while also being tied for second on the Pios with 13 steals and while shooting 90.9% (40-for-44) from the free throw line.

Junior
Ant Navarrete (San Lorenzo, Calif.) is putting in 11.9 points while leading the team with 6.6 rebounds per game, which is good for 11th in the league. He is also shooting 53.8% from the field on 26.0 minutes per game. Navarrete leads the Pioneers with in three double doubles on the season.
Evan Wardlow (Lake View Terrance, Calif.) was named CSUEB's Male Athlete of the Week after huge road performances against Sonoma State and Chico State. Wardlow is tallying 10.1 points per game while corralling 5.2 rebounds through 10 starts. Wardlow is playing 28.3 minutes per game while connecting on a team best 94.4% (17-for-18) from the free throw line.

Patrick Marr (Clayton, Calif.) is compiling 7.1 points while chipping in 5.0 rebounds per game. Marr has started nine games this season while registering a team best six blocks and shooting averages of 42.6% from the field, 35.7% from beyond the arc and 80.6% from the free throw line.

Trent Warren (Melbourne, Australia) is pacing the Pioneer reserves with 7.4 points per game on 14.7 minutes off the bench. He is leading CSUEB with 14 three-point field goals made on 33.3% shooting from three and 41.5% shooting from the field overall.

SCOUTING SAN FRANCISCO STATE
The San Francisco State Gators enter the matchup against the Pioneers with 7-3 record on the season with a 4-2 mark in conference after defeating Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday night, December 13, 80-76. Ryne Williams leads the Gators with 14.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Jiday Ugbaja is adding 10.4 points and 2.9 assists per outing for SF State.
