HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's basketball program picked up a 70-59 win over Notre Dame De Namur to roundup the opening day of Veteran's Day Classic on Friday night, November 9 in Pioneer Gymnasium.

The Pioneers controlled nearly early facet of the ball game in the victory as they overcame an early 12-point deficit to capture the home victory.

The Pioneer defense held the visiting Argonauts to 40.0% (22-for-55) shooting from the field including 5-for-22 (22.7%) from beyond the arc. East Bay did not shoot very well themselves as they went 20-for-50 (40.0%) from the field along with shooting 5-for-24 (20.8%) from three-point range. The Pios did however perform better at the charity stripe than their opponents going 25-for-30 (83.3%) while the Argos shot 76.9% (10-for-13) from the foul line for the game. CSUEB also forced NDNU into 14 turnovers while scoring 19 points off those turnovers.

Newcomer
Ant Navarrete (San Lorenzo, Calif.) notched his first double-double of the season as he scored a game high 18 points on 8-for-12 accuracy from the floor while grabbing 10 rebounds. Navarrete also added one steal in 28 minutes of action.

In total the Pioneers had three players score in double figures. Junior
Trent Warren (Melbourne, Australia) tallied 14 points in only 15 minutes of action off the bench. Warren shot 4-for-6 from the field including 3-for-5 from three-point land capped off by a perfect 3-for-3 mark from the free throw line. Senior forward
Patrick Marr (Clayton, Calif.) finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while going 7-for-8 from the foul line. Marr added a block, an assist and a steal through 26 minutes.

Cal State East Bay outrebounded Notre Dame De Namur 38-32 and narrowly edged the Argonauts in the battle of the paint points 28-26. But the major difference was the Pioneers was their production from their reserve players. East Bay go 25 points from the bench to just 12 from Notre Dame.

Senior guard
Juwan Anderson (Oakland, Calif.) paced the Pioneers with a game-high seven assists to go along with seven points, three rebounds and two assists. Sophomore
Wyatt Maker (Salinas, Calif.) also chipped in seven points and five rebounds in only nine minutes of game action.

This is the third time in the last four seasons in which Cal State East Bay has opened the season with a victory.

East Bay will conclude the Veteran's Day Classic with a matchup against Holy Names Saturday evening, November 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Pioneer Gymnasium.
