HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer squad will embark on their final road trip of the 2018 regular season with matches against Sonoma State and Humboldt State.

CSUEB will face Sonoma on Thursday afternoon, October 25 at Seawolf Soccer Field and conclude the season with a Saturday afternoon, October 27 at College Creek Field.

WEEK IN REVIEW

The Cal State East Bay men's soccer program dropped their weekend opening home contest 3-0 to the visiting Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes on Friday evening, October 19 at Pioneer Stadium.

The Pioneers wore pink warmup shirts for their "Dig For A Cure" pink game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Cal State East Bay found themselves down early as the visiting San Bernardino Coyotes took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute of action. CSUSB would take a 2-0 lead into the intermission after adding another goal in the 40th minute of the game.

In the second, the defense tightened up for both squads as no shot came with out a contest from a defender. But the Coyotes would close the match with in goal in the 85th minute as they left Pioneer Stadium with a 3-0 victory.

Freshman
Juan Diego Escalante (Castro Valley, Calif.) compiled his first start of the season and tallied two saves.

The Cal State East Bay men's soccer squad concluded it's 2018 regular season home schedule with a 3-0 loss to the visiting Cal Poly Pomona Broncos on Sunday afternoon, October 21 at Pioneer Stadium.

The opening 20 minutes of the game saw back-and-forth action from both sides as the Pioneers and Broncos looked to capitalize on each others early mistakes. But in the 25th minute of action CPP was able to convert on a goal by Eduardo Faria to take a 1-0 lead.

The score would remain the same as the teams headed into the locker room for the intermission.

The second half began where it left off for Cal Poly Pomona as they converted on a penalty kick to take a 2-0 advantage. The Broncos would add one final goal in the 86th minutes of play to leave Pioneer Stadium with a 3-0 conference victory, their ninth of the season.

Despite ending the game scoreless, it was not for lack of offensive aggression from the Pioneers as they out shot the Broncos, 13-11 for the game. But it was CPP that held an 8-3 shot on goal advantage over CSUEB.
Senior goalkeeper
Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) got the start in goal before being relieved by junior
Carlos Moreno (Patterson, Calif.) who saw his first action of the season. Moreno logged 85 minutes of play and recorded a season best five saves on the day.

PIONEER POINTS
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) leads the Pioneers with seven goals scored and 15 points on the season. Ayala is tied for third in the conference in goals scored and tied for fifth in total points. He is also tops on the team with 38 total shots which is sixth in the CCAA. Ayala also has one game-winning goal on the season.

Freshman
Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) is pacing East Bay with four assists which is tied for sixth in the CCAA. Francisco is second on CSUEB with two goals and eight points.

Senior captain
Carter Magee (Belfast, Northern Ireland) has tallied two goals on eight shots on the season.
Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) has one goal and one assist on the season.

Goalkeeper
Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) leads the Pioneers in the box with 53 saves through 13 games played including two shutouts. His 53 saves are good for fourth in the conference as he also recorded a career best eight saves against Cal State San Marcos.

SCOUTING SONOMA STATE
The Sonoma State Seawolves enter the match against East Bay with a 2-10-3 mark on the season with a 0-8-2 record in CCAA action after back-to-back losses to Stanislaus State and Humboldt State. Sebastian Santos paces the Seawolves with eight goals, three assists and 19 total points. Arturo Ornelas leads Sonoma State with 50 saves and on shutout through 14 games.

SCOUTING HUMBODT STATE
The Humboldt State Lumberjacks head into the CCAA contest with East Bay boasting a 5-8-2 mark on the season with a 1-7-2 record in conference play after falling to Chico State before bouncing back to defeat Sonoma State. Gus Baxter leads the Lumberjacks with seven goals, three assists and 17 total points. Bryan Hernandez has compiled 84 saves and two shutouts through 12 matches.
