ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team closed out its Fall schedule this week by tying for fifth place out of 12 teams in the annual Sonoma State Invitational at the par-72 Foxtail Golf Club.
The Pioneers had a consistent week with team scores of 313 and 311 for a total score of 624 (+48), the exact same as Chico State and just two strokes behind fellow CCAA rival Cal State Monterey Bay in fourth place. The host Seawolves won the tournament at 25 over par.Â
A pair of newcomers led the way for the Pioneers, as
Drishti Karumbaya and Vivien Yen both notched top-20 finishes. Both shot 77 on Monday and both carded 78 this morning to finish with identical totals of 155 (+11), eight strokes behind the individual medalist.Â
Senior
Carolin Chang stumbled a bit in round one with an 81, but shot East Bay's low round on Tuesday with a 76 to earn a share of 26th place with a total of 157 (+13). Junior
Mikia Fang matched Chang at 157 in her Pioneer debut after turning in rounds of 78 and 79.
Senior
Hafsa Khan rounded out CSUEB's team performance by shooting 85 and 82 to finish at 167 (+23) with a share of 52nd place in the overall field of 68 golfers.Â
The Pioneers also had two players competing as individuals.
Lulu Huang shot 85 Monday, followed by an excellent round of 76 on Tuesday to finish in 40th place with a total of 171 (+17).
Angela Dayrit took 57th place with a score of 173 (+29) after shooting 88 and 85.Â
