HURRICANE, Utah
-- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team turned in an historic performance this week to notch a runner-up finish at the Dixie State Invitational on Sand Hallow Golf Course.

It has been nearly two decades since CSUEB began sponsoring women's golf, and on Monday, the Pioneers shot their lowest team score in program history with a 295 (+7). Less than 24 hours later, they matched it with another 295.

East Bay's total of 590 (+14) -- the lowest 36-hole score in school history -- netted a runner-up finish in the 10-team tournament, five strokes behind team champion Academy of Art.

The Pioneers boasted four of the top-12 individuals in the overall field of 64 golfers, led by senior Carolin Chang with a runner-up finish. She carded 71 and 73 at the par-72 course to finish at even-par 144, just two strokes behind the individual medalist. It was the sixth career top-three individual finish for the reigning CCAA Newcomer of the Year.

Freshman Drishti Karumbaya opened the tournament with a 76 on Monday, then fired the team's lowest round of the week with a 70 on Tuesday, vaulting her into the top-five individually. She earned a share of fourth place with a total of 146 (+2), her second top-five finish in as many tournaments.

Fellow newcomer Vivian Yen notched a top-10 finish with a total of 149 (+5). She also turned in one of the highlights of the trip, sinking a hole-in-one on the 15th hole in round one. Yen carded 72 in that round, then followed it up with a 77 on Tuesday to finish tied for ninth.

Senior Hafsa Khan contributed substantially to East Bay's record-setting effort, playing the best tournament of her four-year career with the Pioneers. After an opening round 76, Khan shined on Tuesday by shooting the lowest round of her career (75) to record the lowest 36-hole total of her career (151, +7) and notch the best individual finish of her career (tied for 12th).

Fellow senior Lulu Huang rounded out CSUEB's week with rounds of 81 and 83 to finish tied for 46th place with a total of 164 (+20).

Next up, the Pioneers have a couple weeks off before closing out their Fall schedule at the Sonoma State Invitational on Oct. 22-23 in Rohnert Park.
