SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sophomore
Megan Satterfield posted the fastest 6k time in school history on Saturday to pace an impressive performance by the Cal State East Bay women's cross country team at Sacramento State's Capital Cross Challenge. The Pioneers placed 13th in a deep 25-team field that included 15 Division I squads and six members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).Â
East Bay totaled 413 points in the team standings to finish almost exactly in the middle of the overall pack, just behind conference foes Stanislaus State in 11th and UC San Duego in 13th. The Pioneers beat seven D1 programs in the 6k race, including San Diego State, UNLV, and Cal.Â
Satterfield finished in 36th place individually, and was seventh among the Division II runners in the field. Her personal best 6k time of 22:00.7 shatters the previous program record of 22:28.73, which was set just last year by
Kelsey Lamb.
Senior
Cecilia Carretero, who placed 60th in the field of 239 runners, was East Bay's second finisher with a time of 22:27.5. Her time also eclipsed the previous school record in the 6k. Carretero was followed by fellow senior
Dana Pollard in 115th, freshman
Makenna Duda in 132nd, and senior
Katherine Embody in 139th to round out Easy Bay's team scoring.
