HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team travels to Southern California for its first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road trip with two home games in Southern California against Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.

WEEK IN REVIEW
The Pioneers are currently sitting 2-4-1 on the season with a 0-2 mark in conference play. East Bay opened CCAA action by dropping both matches against Humboldt State and Sonoma State.

The Pioneers and Lumberjacks battled into double overtime to decide the winner in their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener. Although Humboldt State doubled East Bay's total shot count (22-10) the game was pretty tight game throughout. Both squads possessed the ball well, but it would be Humboldt State who would make the most of their opportunities down the stretch.

The Lumberjacks lit up the scoreboard first in the 41st minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Pioneers would respond with a goal from senior Evan Sanchez in the 65th minute.

For Sanchez it was his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Sanchez's five goals is good for third in the CCAA. His 10 points are tied for fourth in the conference.

East Bay and Humboldt State would take turns attempting shots before the end of regulation play. The first overtime became a bit more, sloppy as both squads began to rack up cautions.

But it would be the Lumberjacks who would capitalize on a broken play midway through the second overtime to come away with the 2-1 victory.

Against Sonoma State, the Seawolves dictated the pace of the match from the opening kick as the Pioneers only attempted seven shots to 15 from Sonoma State including seven attempts at the frame.

Sonoma State scored two goals early in the 7th and 30th minutes of play to take a 2-0 advantage at the intermission. The Seawolves would put in their final goal of the match in the 85th minute to come away with the 3-0 victory.

SANCHEZ'S SIZZLING START
CSUEB senior Evan Sanchez, a native of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., leads the Pioneers with five goals and ten points so far on the season. Sanchez is tied for fourth place in the conference in goals and is tied for fifth in the CCAA in total points. Last week's Cal State East Bay Male Athlete of the Week for (Sept. 4-10).

DOUBLE-STUFFING GOALIES
The East Bay goalie duo of sophomore Carlos Moreno and junior Omar Coronel have both been superb while splitting time in goal. Moreno leads the CCAA with 5.60 saves per game and is second in the conference with 28 total saves. He collected a career best eight saves in the Pioneers match against Westminster College. For Coronel, he has only given up two goals through 25 shots faced in three games. He leads CSUEB with a .800 save percentage and logged a career best four saves in a 1-1 tie against ARTU. Both goalies have recorded one shutout apiece on the season.

SCOUTING CAL POLY POMONA
Cal Poly Pomona is 5-2 on the season and currently 1-1 in CCAA action. Sergi Monso leads the Broncos and CCAA with nine goals and seven assists. Jason Trejos has started every game in goal for CPP and has recorded 15 saves and logged one shutout.

SCOUTING CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO
CSUSB enters the weekend with a record of 2-5 overall and a 0-2 mark in conference play. Led by Kieron Coleman and Danny Ortiz who have scored three goals apiece so far on the season. Jacob Huber has logged all seven starts in goal for the Coyotes and has 27 saves so far this year.
