GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team finished off the 2016-17 season with a 15th place finish at the Western New Mexico Mustang Intercollegiate. The Pioneers shot 318 and 309 at Palm Valley Golf Club for a total of 627 (+51) at the 36-hole event.
Cal Baptist won the tournament at 577 (+1), followed by West Texas A&M (+8) in second and Tarleton State (+10) in third. The Pioneers beat four school in the 19-team tournament.
Junior
Julia Youn led the Pioneers this week, finishing in a tie for 37th place in the overall field of 100 golfers. Youn shot 78 (+6) followed by 76 (+4) to finish with a two-round total of 154 (+10).Â
Junior
Taylor Wyss was just one stroke behind Youn at 155 (+11), tied for 40th overall. She shot 81 (+9) on Monday, then carded East Bay's low round of the day on Tuesday with a 74 (+2).
Jamie Enseki and
Kelsi Valenzuela finished with identical totals of 159 (+15) with a share of 59th place. The pair had mirroring rounds, with Enseki shooting 78-81 and Valenzuela shooting 81-78.
Sienna Starck rounded out East Bay's week in Arizona with a total score of 171 (+27) in 92nd place. The junior shaved five strokes off her first round total to close the tournament with an 83 (+11) on Tuesday.
