HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay softball team will welcome the UC San Diego for a weekend series at Pioneer Softball Field. The Pioneers will take on the Tritons, who are ranked #6 in the current West Region Poll, in a four-game series with doubleheaders on Friday, March 10 beginning at 12 noon and Saturday, March 11 with a start time of 11:00 a.m.
East Bay will enter the series with a 4-10 mark in CCAA action and a 8-10 record overall.
WEEK IN REVIEW
Last week, the Pioneers finished their weekend series against Cal State San Marcos with a 1-3 mark before return home for a two-game make up series against the nation's top team in #1 Humboldt State. East Bay dropped two very close game to the lumberjack on Monday afternoon.
The Pioneers rallied back in the first game to force extra innings, but fell 8-7 in a nine-inning heartbreaker. San Marcos then completed the doubleheader sweep with a 7-2 win in this afternoon's series finale.
The first game was a defensive clinic as Humboldt State's Madison Williams (7-1) tossed a no-hitter with seven strikeouts. Not to be outdone Pioneer freshman
Abby Greer (4-5) went 6.2 innings while retiring four Lumberjack batters.
Humboldt State would answer with one run the third inning and five runs in the top of the seventh to claim a 6-1 victory.
The second game did feature more offense as both teams registered at least five hits.

Marisa Lerma knocked an RBI double to center field scoring
Jennifer Palmares in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Humboldt State answered with a run in the top of the sixth inning to tie he game at 1-1.
The teams would carry its 1-1 tie into extra innings, but it would be a two RBI home run by Paque that sealed the deal for the first place Lumberjacks as they swept the doubleheader.
PIONEER POINTS
East Bay is currently second in the conference with 15 home runs The Pioneers are currently 4th with 96 runs scored, 3rd with 206 total bases and a .411 slugging percentage, which ranks 6th in the conference.
CSUEB is 7th in the CCAA with a .273 batting average, 8th with 137 hits and 4th with 81 RBIs.
Senior
Marisa Lerma is 18th in the CCAA batting .392 through 18 games. She leads the team lead with 20 hits, which is 12th in the conference. Lerma has racked up seven runs, 14 RBIs, 30 total bases and two home run blasts. She is slugging .585 through 18 starts this season, 14th in the CCAA. Lerma is also 4th in the conference with a .544 on-base percentage.
Junior
Ashley Allen is 20th in the conference batting .389 so far on the season. She has 14 hits and 10 runs scored. Allen has compiled 15 total bases, three RBIs and a .417 slugging percentage.
Freshman
Jennifer Palmares currently has a .277 batting average. Palmares has tallied 13 hits, nine runs scored, 22 total bases and seven RBIs. She has three doubles and has hit one homer on the season with a .468 slugging percentage.
Sophomore
Tanya Galvan has added 16 hits, 10 runs scored, nine RBIs and 19 total bases. She has a .286 batting average and a .339 slugging percentage. Galvan is tied for 7th in the conference with one triple.
Freshman
Sarah Fukushima is 12th in the CCAA with a .618 slugging percentage and a team leading five home runs, which is tied for 2nd in the conference. Fukushima has 17 hits, 14 runs scored and a team leading 34 total bases. Her 14 RBIs are tied for 10th in the CCAA.
Senior
Ali Cerminara, the all-time leader in home runs, added to her career mark with two homers on the season (26). She also moved into 9th all-time with 28 doubles and is 6th all-time with 95 RBIs. She is batting .245 with 13 hits, nine runs scored, eight RBIs, 20 total bases and a .377 slugging percentage.
Sophomore
Courtney Leyba is 5th on the Pioneers with a .283 batting average. She is 5th in the team with a .435 slugging percentage. Leyba has compiled 14 hits, 11 runs scored, eight RBIs and 20 total bases through 14 games played. She is 10th in the CCAA with four doubles.
East Bay is 6th in the CCAA with a 3.11 team ERA and 4th with a 117.0 innings tossed. The Pioneers are 5th in the conference with 57 strikeouts and 6th with eight wins.
Freshman
Abby Greer is 9th in the CCAA with 2.15 ERA with a 4-5 record. She was tossed 55.1 innings, third in the CCAA, with four complete games, which is good for 7th in the in the conference. Greer's 30 strikeouts lead the Pioneers and are 6th in the CCAA. She has struckout 17 batter looking which is tops in the conference.
Sophomore
Bailee Glover has a record of 2-1 on the season as she has appeared in 11 games making three starts. She is 13th the CCAA with a 2.66 ERA through 26.1 innings pitched. Glover is third on the Pioneers with 12 strikeouts and had one save and one complete game so far on the season.
Freshman
Olivia McWhorter has appeared in nine games and is second on East Bay with six starts and 15 strikeouts. She has a 4.95 ERA with a 2-4 record. McWhorter has tossed 35.1 innings with three complete games.
SCOUTING UC SAN DIEGO
The Tritons completed their weekend series against San Francisco State with a 3-1 mark, picking up a 4-0 shutout win in the second game of the Friday doubleheader. They are batting .323 with a .423 on-base percentage, with four players batting at least .400. The UC San Diego pitching staff had a 2.47 team ERA, led by starters Lizzy Beutter (4-1, 0.93 ERA), who is second in the CCAA in ERA, and Lauren Brown (4-2, 3.41 ERA) who is fifth in the conference with 51.1 innings tossed. The squads split their meeting 2-2 when the met in La Jolla last season.
