HAYWARD, Calif. -- The red hot Cal State East Bay softball team takes a break from its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) schedule this week to compete at the 16th annual Tournament of Champions, hosted by Stanislaus State.

The Pioneers will play the first of their six tournament games against Chaminade at Turlock Sports Complex Field 1. The remaining five contests are all at nearby Pedretti Sports Complex as CSUEB takes on a tough slate of squads from the Pacific West Conference and Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Pioneers have a perfect 4-0 record this season in non-conference play, but will put that mark to the test with three straight doubleheaders this weekend.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY
East Bay posted a 2-4 record at the 2016 Tournament of Champions, and the program is 21-27 all-time at the event. Their best performance at the TOC came in 2015, when the squad finished 5-2 in seven games.

TICKETS
Three-day tournament passes cost $25 for adults and $15 for youths ages 4-13. One-day tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youths. Children 3 and under get free admission. For directions and parking information, as well as standings and results throughout the weekend, visit the TOC Homepage.

GOING STREAKING
The Pioneers enter the tournament on a seven-game winning streak after sweeping a four-game series against Stanislaus State. They have won 10 of their last 12 overall, riding a red hot offense that's averaging 8.5 runs per game over the last two weeks.

As a team, East Bay is batting .301 with a .448 slugging percentage. Seven of their nine regular starters are hitting over .300 and eight of them boast on-base percentages of .380 or higher. Second-year head coach Claire Sua-Amundson has gotten tremendous production from her three seniors -- Ashley Allen (.354 avg, 26 R), Ali Cerminara (.322 avg, 4 HR), and Marisa Lerma (.313 avg, 24 RBI, .495 obp) -- as well as the trio of freshman hitters who highlighted her first recruiting class -- Sarah Fukushima (.344 avg, .427 obp, .750 slg), Jennifer Palmares (.360 avg, 4 HR), and Emilie Portesi (.287 avg, .382 obp).

The Pioneers also feature a tremendously young pitching staff, all of whom have made outstanding progress this season. Freshman Abby Greer has been one of the best pitchers in the CCAA with a 9-6 record, 2.06 ERA, and nine complete games in 15 starts. She has held opponents to a .246 batting average in 98.1 innings. Sophomore Bailee Glover (4-1, 3.93 ERA, 46.1 IP) and freshman Olivia McWhorter (5-5, 4.46 ERA, 53.1 IP) have split duties as the No. 2 starter, and both have shown steady improvement over the course of the season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Fukushima went 6-for-15 with three home runs, nine RBI, and four runs scored against the Warriors, and was named CCAA Player of the Week for her efforts. It's the first such award of her young career and the first Player of the Week honor for CSUEB this season. Fukushima has seven homers in her last seven games, and she now leads the CCAA in both home runs (12) and runs batted in (32).

ROAD DOGS
CSUEB has been outstanding overlooking the Bay at Pioneer Field, posting an 11-3 record at home. But the team is just 7-9 away from Hayward, so they will look to flip the script and raise that record over the .500 mark this weekend.
