SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team finished in 15th place at this week's Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay at Bayonet Golf Club. The Pioneers shot 342 (+53) in Tuesday's final round for a 36-hole total of 676 +(100).
Dallas Baptist won the tournament at 606 (+30), followed by California Baptist in second place at +42. CSUEB defeated Merrimack College, Colorado Springs, and Dominican in the 18-team event.
Scores were high across the board this week due to tough playing conditions, particularly on Tuesday when no team turned in a total score under 300.
Kelsi Valenzuela led the way for the Pioneers in round two and finished as the team's highest individual in the field of 99 golfers. She carded 81 (+9) to finish with a two-round total of 165 (+21) and a share of 51st place.
Like Valenzuela,
Julia Youn also improved by three strokes from her first round score to her second. The junior shot 83 (+11) for a total of 169 (+25), putting her in a tie for 65th place.
Taylor Wyss ended up one stroke ahead of Youn for the week at 168 (+24) in 62nd place after carding 88 (+16) in the second round.
CSUEB's fourth contribution to the team score came from
Sienna Starck with an 89 (+17). The junior finished with a share of 81st place at 174 (+30) for the tournament.Â
Hafsa Khan was just one stroke behind Starck today with a 90 (+18), putting her in a tie for 89th place overall at 182 (+38).Â
Competing as an individual,
Jamie Enseki carded 94 (+22) in the second round and finished one stroke ahead of Khan in the overall field in 88th place at 181 (+37).Â
The Pioneers will now take a week off before visiting another Northern California foe. They'll compete in the Sonoma State Spring Invitational in Rohnert Park on Apr. 3-4 in penultimate tournament of the regular season.
