Pioneer Softball Prepared To Travel South To Take On Toros

HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay softball team will travel to southern California for a four-game weekend series against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponent Cal State Dominguez Hills. The squads will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 18 and a series finale doubleheader on Sunday, March 19. All games will be held Toro Diamond in Carson, Calif.
 
East Bay will enter the series with at .500 with a 11 record overall and a 7-11 mark in conference play.
 
WEEK IN REVIEW
The Pioneers went 3-1 in their weekend home series against UC San Diego highlighted by Abby Greer's one-hit shutout in a 5-0 victory and Ali Cerminara's 27th career home run in a Pioneers 5-3 win.
 
In the opening game of the series Abby Greer turned in a dominating performance on the mound for the Pioneers. Greer tossed a one-hit shutout with two strikeouts while only walking one batter in only 78 pitches. This was Greer's second shutout of the season and her fifth complete game.  
 
Sophomore Bailee Glover tossed a complete game, her second of the season and tied a season high with four strikeouts. She did not allow any walks and tossed 96 pitches in a CSUEB 4-3 victory.
 
Abby Greer picked up her second win of the series after retiring one Triton batter while walking two batters. She also recorded her second complete game of the series and sixth of the season after going all seven innings.
 
Ali Cerminara further cemented her place in the Pioneer softball record books with her 27th career home run with a solo blast over the left field fenceto lead the Pioneers with three hits, two runs scored and a RBI. Courtney Leyba chipped in one hit with three RBIs. Haley Keahi finished with one hit and a run scored. Meghan tallied a RBI and scored a run. Ashely Allen also scored a run for CSUEB.
 
PIONEER POINTS
East Bay is currently second in the conference with 16 home runs The Pioneers are currently 7th with 111 runs scored, 5th with 233 total bases and a .390 slugging percentage, which ranks 7th in the conference.
 
CSUEB is 9th in the CCAA with a .264 batting average, 8th with 158 hits and 5th with 96 RBIs.
 
Senior Marisa Lerma is 21th in the CCAA batting .367 through 22 games. She leads the team lead with 22 hits, which is 21th in the conference. Lerma has racked up seven runs, 17 RBIs, 33 total bases and two home run blasts. She is slugging .550 so far on the season, 19th in the CCAA. Lerma is also 3rd in the conference with a .525 on-base percentage.
Junior Ashley Allen is 34th in the conference batting .333 so far on the season. She has 16 hits and 13 runs scored. Allen has compiled 17 total bases, three RBIs and a .354 slugging percentage.
 
Freshman Jennifer Palmares currently has a .277 batting average. Palmares has tallied 13 hits, nine runs scored, 22 total bases and seven RBIs. She has three doubles and has hit one homer on the season with a .468 slugging percentage through 14 games this season.
 
Sophomore Tanya Galvan has added 16 hits, 10 runs scored, nine RBIs and 19 total bases. She has a .286 batting average and a .339 slugging percentage. Galvan is tied for 7th in the conference with one triple in 19 games on the year.
 
Freshman Sarah Fukushima is 18th in the CCAA with a .554 slugging percentage and a team leading five home runs, which is 4th in the conference. Fukushima has 19 hits, 16 runs scored and a team leading 36 total bases. Her 15 RBIs are 19th in the CCAA.
 
Senior Ali Cerminara, the all-time leader in home runs, added to her career mark with three homers on the season (27). She is 8th all-time with 30 doubles and is 5th all-time with 102 RBIs. She is batting .297 with 19 hits, 11 runs scored, 12 RBIs, 30 total bases and a .469 slugging percentage.
 
Sophomore Courtney Leyba is 7th on the Pioneers with a .267 batting average. She is 6th in the team with a .400 slugging percentage. Leyba has compiled 16 hits, 12 runs scored, 13 RBIs and 24 total bases through 18 games played. She is tied for the team lead with five doubles.
 
East Bay is 7th in the CCAA with a 2.99 team ERA and 5th with a 145.0 innings tossed. The Pioneers are 6th in the conference with 66 strikeouts and tied for 7th with 11 wins.
 
Freshman Abby Greer is 9th in the CCAA with 1.97 ERA with a 6-5 record.  She has tossed 71.0 innings, 4th in the CCAA, with six complete games, which is good for 7th in the in the conference. Greer's 33 strikeouts lead the Pioneers and are 8th in the CCAA. She has struck out 19 batters looking which is tops in the conference.
 
Sophomore Bailee Glover has a record of 3-1 on the season as she has appeared in 13 games making four starts. She is 13th the CCAA with a 2.67 ERA through 36.2 innings pitched. Glover is third on the Pioneers with 17 strikeouts and has one save and two complete games so far on the season.
 
Freshman Olivia McWhorter has appeared in 10 games and is 2nd on East Bay with seven starts and 3rd with 16 strikeouts. She has a 5.25 ERA with a 2-5 record. McWhorter has tossed 37.1 innings with three complete games.
 
SCOUTING CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS
The Toros completed their midweek home series against Sonoma State with a 0-4 mark. They are batting .257 with a .347 on-base percentage, with five players batting at least .300. The Dominguez Hills pitching staff has a 12.22 team ERA with 46 strikeouts. Madison Murphy leads the Toros with 25 hits, 10 RBIs and two home runs. Pitcher Jade Loe has recorded Dominguez Hills only win on the mound and is second on the team with 14 strikeouts.
 
When the teams last met in 2016, East Bay left Pioneer Softball Field with a 3-1 series win.
