Pioneer Women Open CCAA play on Road Against SF State

HAYWARD, Calif. – In the face of of a rainy week in the Bay Area, the East Bay softball team will hope to open their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action with a four-game series against San Francisco State on Saturday and Sunday in San Francisco at SFSU Softball Field. Saturday's doubleheader is slated to start 1:00 p.m. and Sunday doubleheader will begin at 12 noon.
 
PIONEER POINTS
The Pioneers opened the 2017 season by sweeping series against Academy of Art and Holy Names. East Bay was impressive on the offensive end scoring eight or more runs every game paced by 10 homeruns and 48 runs scored, which are tops in the conference.
 
The Pioneers lead the CCAA with a .415 team batting average, 44 RBIs and a .783 slugging percentage.
 
Freshman Emilie Portesi led the three homeruns in the opening game of the season and finished with seven runs on five hits with six RBIs and 15 total bases. She is currently batting .500. She broke the Pioneer record for home runs in an inning (2) and homers in a game (3).
 
Sophomore Courtney Leyba is currently 2nd in the conference with a team leading .727 batting average. Leyba has eight hits with five runs scored, six RBIs and 14 total bases. She has a 1.273 slugging percentage.
 
Marissa Lerma is sitting 5th in the CCAA batting .556 so far on the season. The senior currently has five hits with four runs scored, four RBIs, eight total bases and a .889 slugging percentage.
 
Sophomore Tanya Galvan in 6th in the conference with a .545 batting average. Galvan has six hit with five runs scored, five RBIs and eight total bases and a .727 slugging percentage.
 
Senior Ali Cerminara, the all-time leader in home runs, added to her career mark with two homers on the season (26). She also moved into 9th all-time with 28 doubles and 6th all-time with 95 RBIs. She is batting .500 with four hits, six runs scored, seven RBIs, 10 total bases and a 1.250 slugging percentage.
 
Freshman pitcher Abby Greer leads the a 3-0 mark on the season an 0.00 ERA. Greer has one complete game and a shutout. She leads the Pioneers with 10 strikeouts through 11 innings pitched while only allowing one run scored.
 
SCOUTING SAN FRANCISCO STATE
The 2017 San Francisco State softball team was tabbed to finish 6th in the CCAA Softball Preseason Coaches Poll. They finished 2016 with a 25-28 mark and 19-21 in conference action. The Gators are off to a 1-1 start after splitting a double header matchup with Academy of Art on February 1. Gabby Reta leads SF State with a .625 batting average, five hits, two runs scored, a homer, four RBIs and 12 total bases. Pitcher Lindsey Cassidy lead the Gators with a 1-0 record with one complete game and a strikeout in seven innings pitched.
 
SF State swept the season series 4-0 over East Bay in 2016.
