HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's cross country team placed 18th on Saturday morning at 2017 NCAA Division II West Region Championships, the program's highest finish at the meet since 2013.
Individually, sophomore
Megan Satterfield wrapped up a record-setting season with the highest finish by a CSUEB female runner since the program re-joined Division II in 2009.Â
The Pioneers scored 508 points at Ash Creek Preserve, falling just three points short of 17th-place Dixie State. They were the seventh team to finish from the CCAA, which had a strong performance collectively.
Satterfield finished in 22:18.4 to place 48th in the overall field of 209 runners. She posted the fastest 6k time and the highest finish by a Pioneer at West Regionals in the CCAA era.
Freshman
Makenna Duda placed in the top 100 to cap off an outstanding rookie campaign. Duda finished 97th and improved her time from CCAA Championships by 11 seconds, crossing the tape in 23:10.2.
Seniors
Cecilia Carretero and
Dana Pollard turned in strong performances to close out their cross country careers, taking 106th and 113th place, respectively.Â
Freshman
Claire Fisher contributed CSUEB's fifth team score with a 148th place finish. Fellow rookie
Rosalva Quevado took 175th, and sophomore
Alondra Castro Ortiz placed 187th to close out the race and an extremely promising season overall for this young Pioneer squad.Â
