HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team fell at home to UC San Diego by a final score of 59-47 on Saturday evening in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.
The loss snaps CSUEB's three-game winning streak, dropping them to 8-7 overall with a 5-3 record in conference play. The Tritons improve to 11-4 and sit atop the CCAA standings at 7-1 in league games.Â
It was a low-scoring affair most of the way, as the teams combined for 31 turnovers and both struggled shooting from long distance. The Pioneers shot just 30.4 percent from the field for the game went 4-for-21 from beyond the arc. UCSD was just 5-for-28 on three-pointers, but the Tritons won the battle down low and finished with a 24-14 advantage on points in the paint, led by Dalayna Sampton with 16 points and 12 rebounds.Â
The Pioneers actually led for most of the first half, and took a 31-27 lead into the intermission. Unfortunately, the Tritons made some adjustments at halftime, and East Bay's offense couldn't find its rhythm after that. UCSD opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run to take over the lead. They held the Pioneers to just four points in the period and a total of 16 in the second half, as the visitors pulled away late.Â
Elayshia Woolridge led East Bay with 11 points on 4-for-9 shooting in 26 minutes off the bench. The sophomore has reached double figures in four straight games and is now the team's third-leading scorer for the season.Â
