HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team outlasted visiting Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday in a tight game at Pioneer Gym by a final score of 75-69.
Five Pioneers scored in double figures as CSUEB completed the season sweep over the Otters. With the victory, the defending conference champion Pioneers improve to 9-7 overall and 6-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) competition under first-year head coach

East Bay out-rebounded Monterey 42-35 for the night, led by
Morgan Greene, who posted a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. The home team also held CSUMB to just 3-for-17 shooting from long distance. Victoria Dorn, who leads the conference in three-point field goals, was just 2-for-10 from beyond the arc.
The Pioneers rode the hot shooting of
Remy Puou early in the game. She had 10 of her 16 points in the first half, as East Bay went into the break with a one-point lead after back-and-forth action in the first two quarters. Puou finished the night a perfect 6-for-6 from the field.
The Otters were hot to open the third, and led by nine points at one point midway through the period. But the Pioneers rallied back and finished the quarter on a 15-6 run. The game was tied 54-54 heading into the final frame, and the teams played evenly until it was 67-67 with 2:12 remaining in the contest. The Pioneers scored their final 10 points of the evening at the free throw line after getting a couple big stops on defense in the last two minutes.
Elayshia Woolridge scored a few huge buckets for East Bay down the stretch and went 7-for-10 at the foul line to match Puou with a game-high 16 points. After going 0-for-5 from the field in the first half,
Shomari Harris scored all 14 of her points after the intermission and dished out a team-high three assists to help lead CSUEB to victory.
Bri Guillory was also key to East Bay's third quarter comeback, posting 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting in 22 minutes off the bench.
With their 6-3 mark in conference games, the Pioneers sit in third place heading into next weekend's crucial Southern California road trip. East Bay will take on Cal State L.A. next Friday night, followed by Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday.
