CHICO, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay volleyball team dropped its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road opener to the Chico State in three straight sets at Acker Gym (10-25, 19-25, 14-25).
CSUEB fell to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in CCAA play as Chico State hit .424, while holding East Bay to a .141 attack percentage. The Pioneers struggled to slow down Chico's attack, as the Wildcats tallied at least 15 kills in all three sets. Olivia Mediano led the way with 14 kills and three aces.
Sophomore Julie Navarro paced the Pioneers with eight kills with a hitting percentage of .438. Deja Thompson also turned in a strong performance as well with five kills, four digs, two aces and a block. Junior Brandi Brucato compiled a team-high nine digs on the evening.
Setter Katie Ireland led CSUEB with 19 assists and added four digs. The sophomore duo of Kiki Leuteneker and Kathy McKiernan each chipped in with three kills apiece. Leuteneker added two assists, two digs and a block. McKiernan finished the match with one dig and a .400 hitting percentage.
Cal State East Bay will continue its conference road trip as the team heads to Turlock to take on the Stanislaus State Warriors on Saturday, September 17 at 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Arena.
