East Bay Swept by Stanislaus to Wrap up Road Trip

TURLOCK, Calif. -- Sophomore Katie Ireland registered her eighth double double with 24 digs and 22 assists in the Cal State East Bay volleyball team's road loss to the Stanislaus State Warriors Saturday evening at the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock. CSUEB (3-6, 0-2) dropped straight sets to Stanislaus State (5-5, 2-0) 25-12, 25-21, 27-25. 

The Pioneers out blocked the Warriors 7-3 and topped them in digs 75-73.

Ireland finished with six kills, an ace, a block and a .333 hitting percentage. Kiki Leuteneker led the Pioneers with eight kills, seven digs, two blocks and an ace. She is now second on the team with 84 kills on the season. 

Taylor Elliot routinely found a soft spot in the Warriors defense finishing with a .400 hitting percentage and seven kills. Deja Thompson struggled on the attack, but turned in strong performance with 16 digs, four kills, a steal and a block. 

Junior Brandi Brucato paced the Pioneers with two aces, while compiling 18 digs and five assists. Julie Navarro added six kills and three blocks, while Kathy McKiernan led East Bay with five blocks and two kills. 

After falling in their first two league contests, Cal State East Bay will be seeking its first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) win of the season when they open up home conference play against Somona State on September 23 in Pioneer Gymnasium at 7:00 pm.
