SANTA ROSA, Calif. – The
Cal State East Bay Pioneers closed the 2016 calendar year with a 59-38 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road loss to Sonoma State on Saturday night, December 31 in the Wolves' Den.
With the loss, the Pioneers dropped to 9-4 overall and 3-3 in CCAA action. It was East Bay's first time losing back-to-back games all season.
Pierre Carter was the Pioneers lone double digit scorer with 10 points off the bench. Carter finished with five rebounds, two steals, one assist and a block in 23 minutes of action. He knocked down two three-pointers during the game.
Druce Asah tallied seven points and two rebounds on a team high 31 minutes on game action. Asah tied Carter with a team best two made three-point field goals.
Senior
Jalen Richard also chipped in seven points, three rebounds and two assists. Richard went 4-for-5 from the charity stripe in 30 minutes of game play.
Sophomore point guard
Juwan Anderson led the Pioneers with five assists.
Kyle Frakes compiled six points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting for the floor. Frakes added three rebounds in 13 minutes on the court.
Senior forward
Micah Dunhour had four points and a team high six rebounds in 29 minutes. It was only the second game of the season in which Dunhour failed to score in double figures.
Senior guard
Paramvir Singh scored three points and a rebound in only eight minutes off the bench for East Bay.
The Pioneers shot 24.1 percent from the floor and 21.4 percent from three-point land, both season lows.
Cal State East Bay also lost the battle of the boards getting out rebounded 41-29 and outscored in the paint 36-12.
Luke Cochran led the Sea Wolves' with 16 points and eight rebounds. Nathan Molony-Benjamin added 10 points and four rebounds for Sonoma State.
Sonoma State improved to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in CCAA play.
The Pioneers will return to action for "Pack the Wagon" Night against Cal State San Marcos on Thursday, January 5, 2017. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m.
