ARCATA, Calif. – Two Pioneers scored in double figures as Cal State East Bay dropped just their second California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road game of the season in their 68-62 loss to Humboldt State on Friday night, December 30 in Lumberjack Arena.
CSUEB falls to 3-2 in CCAA action and 9-3 overall, while Humboldt State improved to 8-4 on the season and 3-3 in CCAA play.
Senior forward
Micah Dunhour paced the Pioneers with a game-high 22 points. He finished with a team best nine rebounds, including six on the offensive end to give East Bay another shot.
Dunhour added one assist and a block in 29 minutes on the floor while going 4-for-5 from the foul line.
Senior guard
Jalen Richard, the reigning CCAA Player of the Week, continued his strong play of late with 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting, highlighted by 4-for-8 from beyond the three-point arc. He added two assists and a team-high two steals while playing all 40 minutes of the game.
Richard went 3-for-5 from the charity stripe.
Freshman wing
Druce Asah notched nine points, two rebounds an assist and one steal. Asah was on the court for 33 minutes.
Sophomore point guard
Juwan Anderson garnered a team high five assists for East Bay. He compiled two points, four rebounds and a steal. Anderson played 38 minutes on Friday night.
Senior
Pierre Carter led the East Bay bench with eight points and six rebounds. Carter knocked down 2-for-4 shots from three-point land in 29 minutes on game play.
Junior center
Kyle Frakes tallied two points, six rebounds and an assist in 17 minutes.
The Pioneers shot a season low 36.9 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from long distance.
East Bay outscored Humboldt State 16-10 in second chance points and fell short in the battle of the board 38-36.
CSUEB competed down to the very last minute of play until a Lumberjack three-pointer with 1:10 to play put Humboldt State up for good.
Malik Morgan led the Lumberjacks with 19 points and four rebounds. Tyras Rattler, Jr added 12 points, ten rebounds and eight assists for Humboldt State.
The Pioneers will try to bounce back when they travel to Rohnert Park to face Sonoma State to close the 2016 calendar year on Saturday, December 31 in the Wolves' Den.
