Pioneer Men Wrap-Up 2016 With Back-to-Back CCAA Road Tilts

HAYWARD, Calif. – After 11 days off for winter break the Cal State East Bay men's basketball team will resume action with back-to-back road California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) games to end off the 2016 calendar year.
 
The Pioneers will faceoff against Humboldt State on Friday, December 30 and line up against Sonoma State on Saturday, December 31. Tipoff for both games will be at 7:30 p.m.
 
WEEK IN REVIEW
CSUEB won it's CCAA home opener over Cal State L.A.  86-84 on December 19.
 
Five Pioneers scored in double figures and three players dished out five assists apiece to help CSUEB improve to 9-2 on the season and 3-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.
 
Micah Dunhour tied the team lead with 17 points and five assists. He added six rebounds while shooting 4-for-5 from the charity stripe.
 
Juwan Anderson also tallied 17 points and collected five assists. He shot 4-for-6 from the floor, including tying a season high with three made three-pointers. Anderson led East Bay with two steal while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line.
 
Jalen Richard continued his got streak with 16 points, 12 in the first half, on 4-for-6 shooting accuracy from the field, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Richard grabbed a team-best seven rebounds, distributed out five assists and corralled one steal.
 
Druce Asah put in 16 points on a team-high four made three-point baskets. Asah added two rebounds on 6-for-10 shooting from the field. He scored 14 of his 16 points after intermission to keep the Pioneers ahead of the surging Golden Eagles.
 
Kyle Frakes poured in 12 points, four rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal for East Bay. Frakes went 5-for-6 from the floor, including a handful of powerful dunks.
 
Pierre Carter led the Pioneer bench with five points, two rebounds and an assist in 25 minutes.
Drew Bender chipped in three points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal. Bender sunk his lone three-point attempt of the night.
 
East Bay controlled the battle on the inside out rebounding Cal State L.A. 27-25 and outscoring the Golden Eagles 28-26 on points in the paint.
 
The Pioneers shot 52.8 percent from the floor for the game and 52 percent from three-point land, including 60 percent in the second half. CSUEB also shot a perfect 1.000 percent on their free throws in the second half.
 
PIONEER POINTS
East Bay has three Pioneers in the top-15 of scoring in the CCAA and one student-athlete in the top-5. Micah Dunhour leads CSUEB with 16.8 points per contest and currently sits 2nd in the conference in scoring average. He has scored in double figures in ten of the Pioneer 11 games including garnering double digits in nine straight games.
 
Dunhour is also 9th with a team-leading 6.8 rebounds per outing. He has three double doubles to go along with 48.6 percent shooting accuracy from the floor, 7th in the CCAA.
 
Dunhour's 33.7 minutes per game is tops in the conference.
 
Freshman Druce Asah is 11th in the CCAA scoring at a 14.1 point per game clip. His 52.5 percent shooting from long distance ranks 2nd in the CCAA. He is also shooting 52.5 percent from the field which is second on the Pioneers.
 
Asah is averaging close to three (2.8) made three-point field goals per game.
 
Senior Jalen Richard, the reigning CCAA Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 12-19, is 15th in the conference putting in 13.5 points per game. His 5.5 rebounds in 18th in the CCAA. Richard is adding 2.7 assists and tied for the team lead with 16 steals.
 
Sophomore point guard Juwan Anderson leads the Pioneers and is 2nd in the CCAA with 5.3 assists per outing. He leads the conference in assist to turnover ratio (2.9) with 53 assists and only 18 turnovers through 10 games this season. He is adding 7.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals on 47.9 percent shooting from the field.
 
He is a perfect 1.000 perfect from the foul line knocking down all 18 of his foul shots on the season so far.
 
Junior Kyle Frakes is shooting a team-high 67.5 percent from the field. Frakes is averaging 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds for the Pioneers.
 
Pierre Carter and Drew Bender are pacing the East Bay bench so far this season. Carter is averaging 8.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists on 40.5 percent shooting from the floor.
 
Bender is adding 6.2 points, 2.5 assists and 2.1 rebounds while converting 89.3 percent of his shots from the charity stripe, second on the team.
 
East Bay is 6th in the CCAA in scoring offense averaging 75.3 points per contest. The Pioneers are 9th in scoring defense only allowing 70.7 points from opponents.
 
The Pioneers are 6th in the CCAA in field goal percentage, shooting 45.1 percent from the floor as a team.
 
CSUEB is 3rd in the conference with 99 three-pointers made so far this season and sits 5th in three-point field goal percentage defense holding opponents to 33.3 percent. The Pioneers are averaging 9.0 made three-pointer per game.
 
The Pioneers are 2nd in the conference in free throw percentage connecting on 72.8 percent of their foul shots as a team.
 
East Bay is also 4th in rebounding defense, grabbing a little under 33 rebounds per game (32.5).
 
The Pioneers are 3rd in the CCAA averaging 14.55 assists per game, with 160 total and 5th in the conference with 6.91 steals per outing, including 76 total.  
 
SCOUTING HUMBLODT STATE
Humboldt State is 7-4 on the season and 2-3 in CCAA action. The Lumberjacks fell to San Francisco State 73-83 in their last outing. Tyras Rattler, Jr. leads the Lumberjacks with 14.8 points and 6.3 rebounds. Nikhill Lizotte is adding 14.5 points and 2.1 assists for Humboldt State.
 
The Pioneers are 1-4 against Humboldt State under fourth year head coach Gus Argenal.
 
SCOUTING SONOMA STATE
Sonoma State is is 6-4 on the year and 2-2 in conference play. The Sea Wolves were defeated by Chico State 50-53 in their last game before winter break. Jimmy Golden leads the Sea Wolves with 11.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest. Mason Phillips is compiling 8.5 points and 2.0 rebounds for Sonoma State.
 
East Bay is winless in five match-ups against Sonoma State under head coach Gus Argenal.
