RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team was defeated 101-73 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon by No. 10 ranked California Baptist in front of a crowd of more than 400 at Van Dyne Gym.
The Lancers improve to 10-2 overall with a record of 6-1 against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) teams this year. The Pioneers fall to 5-4 on the season.
The home team pushed the tempo and controlled the momentum early in the contest and turned in an outstanding shooting performance to pull away from East Bay and prevent a comeback by the visitors.
CBU shot an impressive 57.4 percent as a team and topped 25 points in three of the four quarters. The Pioneers, meanwhile, struggled in the first half and finished with a 37.3 field goal percentage, including just 2-for-12 from three-point range.
Cal Baptist went on big scoring runs in both the first and second quarters, taking a 53-26 lead into halftime. East Bay finally caught fire in the third and opened the period on an 8-0 run. They out-scored the Lancers 29-19 in the frame, but still trailed by 17 heading into the fourth. CBU answered with 29 points of their own in the final period to close out the win.
Shomari Harris had an impressive afternoon, racking up 21 points on 8-for-17 shooting to go along with six assists and six rebounds. The senior has scored at least 20 in three straight games and now leads the CCAA in scoring for the season (17.4 ppg).
Sophomore
Bri Guillory returned to action and reached doubles figures as well with 11 points.
Elayshia Woolridge scored nine, while
Shontalene Trudeau and
Remy Puou finished with eight points apiece.
Morgan Greene and
Kayley Hsiung both notched five points and three steals.
Greene pulled in 12 rebounds to lead the team, a season high for the redshirt freshman. It's her fifth time in double figures thus season. Puou grabbed four boards and had a team-best three blocks.
Next up, the Pioneers return to Southern California on Thursday, Dec. 15 as they resume their CCAA schedule on the road at Cal Poly Pomona.
