Pioneer Men Top Montana State-Billings to Kick Off Road Trip

BILLINGS, Mont. – Cal State East Bay men's basketball team kicked off Its nine game road trip with a 54-50 victory over Montana State-Billings as two senior notched double figures for the Pioneers.
 
With the win, CSUEB has improved to a 3-1 start to the season. The best start under fourth year head coach Gus Argenal.
 
The Pioneers have also won their last three matchups with the Yellowjackets.
 
Senior Micah Dunhour posted his second double-double with 15 points, including 13 in the second half and 11 rebounds, both team highs. Dunhour shot 2-for-4 from long distance and added an assists on a team best 37 minutes.
 
Senior guard Jalen Richard, the teams leading returning scorer, finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. For Richard it was his second double digit scoring effort of the season. He added two steals and an assist in 34 minutes on the court.
 
Sophomore Juwan Anderson led the Pioneers with three assists. Anderson had led East Bay in assists in every game this season. He tallied six points, four rebounds and a steal while knocking down all four of his foul shots in the final minutes of the game to help seal the win for East Bay.
 
Drew Bender led the Pioneer bench with nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Bender went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.
 
Pierre Carter compiled six points, a team best three steals and two rebounds for the Pioneers.
 
East Bay topped Montana State-Billings in the battle of the boards 35-33. The Pioneers controlled the points in the paint 28-22 and bench points 17-6.
 
The stingy Pioneer defense held the Yellowjackets to 33 percent shooting from the field and 23.8 percent accuracy from beyond the arc.
 
After getting off to a rough start offensively, East Bay turned things around by shooting 44.8 percent shooting from the floor.
 
East Bay head coach Gus Argenal was proud of how his team was able to step up and pick up a good road win.
 
"I was extremely impressed with the way we stuck together on the road," Argenal said. "This was a huge road win for us to start off this long road trip."
 
Next up, the Pioneers continue their road trip with a nearby Bay Area matchup against Holy Names on Tuesday, November 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Tobin Gymnasium.
