ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team took home sixth place this week at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational after shooting 318-319 at the par-72 Foxtail Golf Club for a total score of 637 (+61).
The Pioneers finished 35 strokes behind the tournament champion Arkansas Tech. They topped three schools in the nine-team field: Western Washington (+62), Point Loma (+70), and Dominican (+86).Â
East Bay's top three golfers this week all finished close together in a bunch.
Julia Youn shot back-to-back rounds of 79 (+7), while fellow junior
Taylor Wyss carded 78-80. Both women finished at 158 (+14) for the 36-hole event, notching top-20 finishes with a share of 19th place.
Sophomore
Ariel Caro was just a stroke behind at 159 (+15) with rounds of 78 (+6) and 81 (+9), tied for 24th place in the overall field of 53. Caro's 25 pars over two rounds were tied for the most of any golfer in the tournament.
Sophomore
Hafsa Khan earned a share of 37th place with a total of 164 (+20) after shooting 81-83 on Monday and Tuesday. Junior
Sienna Starck shot 88 (+16) in round one, then bounced back to carve off seven strokes and contribute an 81 (+9) to the team total in round two. Starck finished tied for 42nd at 169 (+25).Â
The Pioneers will travel to Southern California next week for their last tournament of the Fall. They'll compete in the Cougar Classic, hosted by Cal State San Marcos on Oct. 24-25.
