SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team continued an impressive start to their conference championship defense with a fourth place finish this week at Cal State Monterey Bay's Otter Invitational.Â
The Pioneers shot 291-294-298 on the par-72 Bayonet Golf Course for a total of 883 (+19). They finished behind tournament champion Lynn (+1), as well as the host Otters (+6) and Nova Southeastern (+7), all teams ranked in the top 25 nationally.Â
CSUEB led the field in par-3 scoring at one under, and they finished tied for the most pars made.Â
East Bay bested 12 schools in a strong field, including CCAA foes Cal State San Marcos (+24), Sonoma State (+35), Chico State (+40), and UC San Diego (+48), and West Region rivals Simon Fraser (+22), Cal Baptist (+30), and Colorado Springs (+32).
Senior
Adam Stone continued his run of consistently excellent play to pace the Pioneers. He shot 71-72-72 to finish the 54-hole event at 215 (-1), tied for fifth place in the overall field of 86 golfers. Stone has finished under par in all three tournaments to start the Fall, with a pair of top-10 finishes.
Fellow senior
Owen Hutchison notched his second top-20 finish with a share of 18th after carding 72-73-76 for a total of 221 (+5).Â
East Bay's two freshmen phenoms finished with identical totals of 224 (+8), tied for 32nd place overall.
Chris Carney contributed two scores to the team total over the course of three rounds by shooting 74-75-75.
Max Murai counted all three of his rounds towards the team score by turning in cards of 74-74-76.
Senior
Barrett Taylor posted his best 54-hole score of the season, finishing tied for 53rd at 229 (+13). He was particularly impressive Monday morning with a 74 (+2), and then followed it up with 78-77 in the final two rounds.Â
The Pioneers travel to Southern California next week for their last tournament of the Fall. They'll compete in the Cougar Classic, hosted by Cal State San Marcos on Oct. 24-25.
