Heath Leads East Bay Women at Stanford Invite

STANFORD, Calif.
-- The Cal State East Bay women's cross country team ran at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday morning along with over 3,400 runners from all three NCAA Divisions as well as the junior college and high school levels.

The Pioneers placed 26th in the 6k collegiate race and eighth among Division II squads at the course on Stanford Golf Course. They bested California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival Cal State Monterey Bay.

2014 All-CCAA honoree Imani Heath led the way for East Bay with a time of 23:14. She finished 122nd, in the top half of the collegiate women field of 255 runners, topping dozens of Division I runners. 

Junior transfer Kandace Compton crossed the finish line in 24:12.5, good for second on the team and 185th in the overall field. She was followed by Camille Hansen, who took 194th with time of 24:27.2.

Melissa Bell continued a solid freshman campaign, turning in a time of 25:21.0 to take 218th place. Senior Alyssa Tenney took 233rd in 26:24.8, and Vanessa Mares finished in 27:01.6 in 241st place.

Next up, the Pioneers have a week off before competing in the San Francisco State on Oct. 9 at Golden Gate Park, the site of the 2015 CCAA Championships.
