Fresno State Invitational Women's Results
FRESNO, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's cross country team had yet another strong early-season showing at Friday's Fresno State Invitational in Woodward Park.
Despite a few of their top runners not competing, the Pioneers still placed seventh in the nine-team field, which included Division I programs Fresno State, Stanford, Cal Poly, San Jose, and Sacramento State. East Bay was edged out by CCAA rival Stanislaus State, but they beat Pacific Union as well as Division I squad Cal State Bakersfield.
Senior
Oddessy Tapia paced the Pioneers, taking 44th place in the 79-runner field and finishing seventh among Division II participants. She completed the 4200-meter course in 16:08.
Junior transfer
Kandace Compton clocked in at 16:39 in 52nd place. She was followed closely by senior
Kelsey Lamb (16:55) in 54th and junior
Sarah Perrin (16:59) in 55th.
Alyssa Tenney, a former All-American swimmer for Cal State East Bay, placed 57th with a solid time of 17:11 in her first career cross country race. Junior
Vanessa Mares finished in 17:25 for 61st place, and freshman
Leslie Diaz crossed the finish line in 18:20 in 64th place to close out the morning.Â
The East Bay women now have a week off before competing locally at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 26.
