SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Cal State East Bay will close out its 2015 regular season following a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) weekend series at San Francisco State. It will likely be the final four games in the collegiate careers of eight Pioneer seniors who walked off Pioneer Field for the final time as winners this past Saturday.

Last season Cal State East Bay won three of four in Hayward during the program's best year during the CCAA era. The Pioneers finished 18-18 in league play and one win shy of the program's first berth into the league's postseason tournament.

During that time the Pioneers are 9-5 against the Gators at home, but just 4-4 on the road at SFSU Softball Field. This year's squad is 6-10 on the road while San Francisco State has won only five of its 26 games on its home field.

San Francisco State (11-37, 6-26 CCAA) is looking to send its three seniors Lucy Fernandez, Courtney Gravel, and Selina Rodriguez out on a winning note. Gravel ranks third on the squad with her .292 batting average. Fernandez leads the team with 21 RBI, and Rodriguez is batting .255 over 34 starts this season.

The Gators are also hoping to avoid the CCAA cellar for the second straight year. SFSU is currently tied for last place with Cal State Stanislaus, and both finished tied at the bottom of last year's league standings with identical 10-26 conference records.

Cal State East Bay (25-22, 13-19 CCAA) stood pat in its ninth ranked position following the most recent NCAA West Region rankings released on Wednesday, April 22. The Pioneers will look to move up both the league standings and regional rankings this weekend in hopes of grabbing an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

At least one victory this weekend would give Cal State East Bay one win against every other league foe for time in program history. SFSU lost 15 straight Friday CCAA games before picking up a game two win on Friday, April 17, versus Sonoma State. The Gators win snapped a 7-game skid which included four losses by a total of six runs to nationally ranked No. 5 Cal State Monterey Bay.

Program records are at stake with the home run hitting Jaynie MacDonald having a chance to make history. Her 14 homers in 2015 are two shy of the single-season record, and her 20 career long balls are three away from the Pioneer mark, both set by Taylor Neumann during the 2012 campaign.

Senior teammate Kelsey LaVaute has 19 career round trippers, and sophomore catcher Ali Cerminara enters the weekend with 18, including 10 this season.

This season the Cal State East Bay batters have combined to draw 145 walks with Lauren Vestal's 27 leading the way. The patient Pioneers are averaging more than three free passes per game which would put them well clear of the current program record of 153 set by the 1987 club.
