Softball Eyes Series with No. 3 Cal State Monterey Bay

HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay softball team will host its second straight California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series at Pioneer Field this weekend. It will also be the second straight nationally ranked opponent as No. 3 Cal State Monterey Bay arrives in Hayward on Friday.

Cal State East Bay (13-7, 6-6 CCAA) earned a series split with No. 19 Humboldt State last weekend. The Pioneers received a NFCA National Player of the Week performance from senior Jaynie MacDonald to lead the offense.

East Bay pitcher Sierra Clark earned the complete game victory in both wins and improved her record this season to 7-1. Tatiana Beilstein held her own against the Jacks including a complete game effort in which she held the HSU offense scoreless over 6.2 innings.

The Cal State East Bay defense has turned a league leading 11 double plays through 20 games this season. This year's squad is well ahead of its 2014 pace of 20 double plays in 53 games.

Cal State Monterey Bay (13-2, 6-2 CCAA) enters this weekend with a .393 team batting average and 2.20 team earned run average. A 2014 All-CCAA First Teamer in Bianca Noriega and the reigning CCAA Pitcher of the Year Cori Reinhardt are pacing the Otters with numbers placing them as early favorites for conference end of the year accolades.

Noriega has a .684 batting average (13-for-19) in eight CCAA games thus far. She enters Friday with a .684/.793/1.105 CCAA slash line and is only behind EB's MacDonald in RBI despite playing four less games. Noriega is also a patient hitter drawing nine walks and striking out just once against league pitchers.

Reinhardt is 8-0 with eight complete games and a 1.32 ERA this season. She has held league opponents to a combined 23 hits in 28 innings and is 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA in CCAA play. Reinhardt is a dual threat with her .439 batting average and 13 RBI. She is one of five Otters boasting a .400 or higher batting average heading into Friday's series.

Cal State East Bay has dominated at home this season outscoring the opposition 72-43 en route to its 9-3 record at Pioneer Softball Field. The team swept CSUMB at home in 2011 and split with the Otters in 2013.
