SANTEE, Calif. -- Cal State East Bay sophomore
Adam Stone was crowned co-champion of the 2015 SoCal Intercollegiate, hosted by UC San Diego at Carlton Oaks Golf Club this week. The left0-hander shot even-par 72 in Tuesday's final round to finish at 218 (+2) for the tournament.
Stone ended up in a tie with Dalen Yamauchi of Hawaii-Hilo for individual medalist honors. He bested every other California Collegiate Athletic Association golfer, while leading the overall field with 42 total pars.
The Lancaster, England native led East Bay to a third-place finish in the team standings. The Pioneers shot their best round of the week with a 299 (+11) on the final day to finish at 908 (+44) overall. They were 20 strokes behind the team champions, No. 6 Cal State Monterey Bay, and 16 strokes behind second-place Colorado-Colorado Springs.
CSUEB topped Hawaii-Hilo (+45), as well as CCAA rivals Cal State Stanislaus (+57), Cal State Dominguez Hills (+59), and UC San Diego (+68).
Senior
A.J. Hebert carded his second straight 73 (+1) on Tuesday to notch a top-10 individual finish. His total score of 224 (+8) put him in a tie for eighth place in the overall field of 40 golfers.
Sophomore
Trevor Spade ended up in 19th place with a cumulative score of 230 (+14) after turning in a 79 (+7) in the final round.
Senior
Sam Lavelle fired his lowest round of the tournament with a 75 (+3), moving him up to 26th place with a three-round total of 236 (+20).
Freshman
Ignacio Ognian shot 83 (+11) to round out East Bay's week and finished in 36th overall at 249 (+33).
Next week, CSUEB returns home to host the 2015 Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on Mar. 30-31 at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, Calif. It will be the preview tournament for the NCAA West Regionals in May and features a loaded 19-team field.
