HAYWARD, Calif. -- The 2014-15 regular season concludes this weekend on the road for the Cal State East Bay men's basketball team. The Pioneers make a pair of stops along Highway 99, visiting Cal State Stanislaus on Friday night followed by Chico State on Saturday in the season finale.

Both of East Bay's opponents this weekend have qualified for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) postseason tournament. The Warriors captured last year's title as the last seed in the bracket, and the Wildcats are the defending NCAA Division II West Region champions.

WEEKLY RECAP
The Pioneers wrapped up their home schedule last weekend against two more teams headed to the postseason. They had an excellent shooting night on Friday, posting a .478 field goal percentage and hitting 44 percent of their three-pointers, but the short-handed squad fell to Cal State San Bernardino, 78-65. Four Pioneers scored in double figures, led by Jacari Whitfield's 16 points and eight assists.

On Saturday, CSUEB celebrated "Senior Night" for the five student-athletes competing in Pioneer Gym for the final time. It was a tight game in the first half, but visiting Humboldt State pulled away down the stretch despite a career-high 19 points by Cody Kale. As they have for the entire second half of the season, the Pioneers started the game with just eight healthy players, and they couldn't quite keep up with the highest-scoring team in the league.

PIONEER POINTS
Whitfield has two games left in one of the most impressive Pioneer careers of the 21st century. He has played in 105 games and more than 3,100 minutes. He holds school records for career three-pointers (190) and free throw percentage (.848), and he needs seven assists this weekend to break Jun Uchida's program record of 349.

For the season, Whitfield leads East Bay in scoring and he ranks third in the CCAA in assists. He ranks ninth in Pioneer history with 916 career points and has scored in double figures 14 times this year, including the last nine straight games.

Fellow senior Nick Grieves also nears the end of his collegiate career after leading the Pioneers with 115 made three-pointers over the last two seasons. The San Jose State transfer needs just two more long balls to move up to fifth place in CSUEB's all-time career rankings.

Patrick Marr is wrapping up an outstanding freshman season for head coach Gus Argenal. After the team's entire starting frontcourt suffered season-ending injuries, the 6'7" Marr stepped up and became one of East Bay's best players on both sides of the ball. He's fourth on the squad in scoring and second in rebounding for the season, and he ranks second among all CCAA freshman with 23.9 minutes per game.

Sophomore Paramvir Singh scored a career high 13 points on Friday against CSUSB. The Hayward native has been a big contributor late in the season, making four starts and shooting 38 percent from long distance.

SCOUTING STANISLAUS
The Warriors clinched a playoff berth for the second straight season, but they have struggled down the stretch, losing five of their last seven games. The Pioneers are the only team with a lower field goal percentage (.383) than Stanislaus (.411), but the Warriors are third in the league in rebounding margin. Chris Read (12.6 ppg) is the team's leading scorer, and the twin towers of Wes Bartole (9.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg) and Rob Walters (9.1 ppg, 7.0 rpg) are a tough matchup inside. Since CSUEB joined the CCAA in 2009-10, Stanislaus has won all 11 games in the series between the two teams, mostly recently picking up a 77-67 win in Hayward back on Jan. 24.

CHECKING IN ON CHICO
The Wildcats are currently tied atop the league standings with Cal Poly Pomona, and they're ranked No. 6 in the West Region in the latest NCAA rankings. Chico State has been red hot, winning 12 of their last 13 games, including seven straight at home. They lead the CCAA in rebounding, they're second in scoring defense, and they rank third in field goal percentage (.474). Acker Gym also averages over 1,100 fans a game, making it a tough environment in which to play. Robert Duncan (13.4 ppg, 54% FG) leads the team in scoring, and Jordan Semple (11.3 ppg, 9.0 rpg) is the top rebounder in the West Region. The Wildcats defeated the Pioneers 56-44 in Hayward back on Jan. 23, improving their record to 10-1 against East Bay since 2009-10.
