POMONA, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team was defeated 73-48 on the road Saturday night by Cal Poly Pomona to close out their two-game trip. The Broncos (15-4, 11-3 CCAA) remain tied atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings with the win, while the injury-depleted Pioneers drop to 4-16 for the season.
Jacari Whitfield led all scorers with 17 points and played a team-high 38 minutes. The senior point guard finished 5-for-13 from beyond the arc, adding to his school record total, which is now stands at 173 made three-pointers.

The Pioneers came out of gate firing in the first half, trading baskets with the top shooting team in the league for the first 15 minutes. The Broncos out-scored the Pioneers 17-4 over those final seven minutes to take a 34-24 lead into the break.
East Bay was never able to make a sustained rally as the home team held a double-digit lead throughout the second half. Pomona out-shot the Pioneers 48 to 34 percent for the game, preventing any comeback attempts. The size disadvantage was also evident for CSUEB, which was playing without its entire starting frontcourt from the beginning of the season. The Broncos capitalized, out-rebounding East Bay 42 to 23 and out-scoring them 28 to 12 in the paint.
Freshman
Patrick Marr scored six points and grabbed four rebounds, while sophomore
Kyle Frakes added four points and four boards on 2-for-3 shooting. Fellow big man
